Just extended my OA retirement visa for the first time until December 2021. Merry Christmas to me. My passport expires January 2022 so I will need to renew it next year before December. With all that said what must be done after I get my renewed passport? I'm guessing there is some process at immigration for transferring my current visa to my renewed passport?

TLDR : Answer Summary
After renewing your passport while on an OA retirement visa in Thailand, you need to have a letter from your embassy requesting the transfer of your visa stamp to the new passport. It's advisable to carry both old and new passports until the transfer is complete. Additionally, you may need to present updated financial documents to satisfy the immigration requirements, ensuring you still meet the financial criteria for your visa extension.

Thanks! Yes, I know I have plenty of time but yes I will need to allow plenty of time to get it renewed before next December. In my case, it is via the US Embassy. Once I have the new passport I will stop in at my Chonburi immigration office for a chat about requirements.

You're a YEAR away from needing to do anything about it.

However, once you do get a new passport, at least in Bangkok to get the stamps transferred you will need to show another bank letter and updated bank book (if you used banked money for this current extension) <- to make sure you are still meeting the financial requirements for the whole year.

AND

again in Bangkok you will need to have the following copies and the transfer stamp form filled out.

Thanks! This reminds me that I need to make new copies of my current/new extension stamp. And I'll want stuff like that while the passport is out of my possession for renewal next year.

Or carry both until you get a new stamp.

I assume you mean doing from Thailand so pretty sure you can renew your passport early so I’d think do that via the (Oz?) embassy before you go for your next extension. Just leave enough time! You maybe won’t need to transfer to you old passport but take both to Immigration

When you get your new passport it should come with a letter from your home country Embassy to Thai Immigration requesting they accept your new passport.

Your new and current OA extension stamp (its no longer a visa) just obtained will be transferred into your new passport to use.
