I have just renewed my passport because of the lack of pages with the agency at the Trendy building. What is the procedure for transfering my Non Immigrant O visa from my old to my new passport?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To transfer your Non Immigrant O visa from your old passport to your new one in Thailand, you need to take both your old (invalidated) passport and your new passport to the immigration office that issued your extension. If you are still under the first 90-day stamp of an in-country visa, it cannot be transferred right away; you'll have to wait until you apply for a 1-year extension. Make sure to have any relevant documents, such as the visa transfer request letter if provided with your new passport. Bringing both passports might be necessary until the transfer is completed.

I just put the two passports together with an elastic band and showed immigration every time I left. Granted that was 10 years ago. This is what immigration told me to do

that is IF you have a VISA <- from a thai consulate in the old passport.

IF you have an "extension of stay" issued from INSIDE the country at the immigration office you take both passports (and the letter from your embassy saying you renewed your passport in country) to the immigration office that issued your extension and they move the stamps

, that depends on what visa, entry stamp, or extension you have if you have to transfer stamps or if you need to carry both passports always.

Assuming that they gave you a visa transfer request letter with your new passport, then just take the two passports and letter to your local immigration office. I just did it this week. Free and easy. They did want a load of photocopies, but they did them for me.

You take an old (invalidated) passport and a new one to the immigration office that issued your extension to apply for transfer stamps if you already are on an extension. If you are still on the first 90 days stamp from an in-country visa, it cannot be transferred, wait until the time you apply for a 1-year extension to take both. Till then you need to bring around both passports.

Some embassies don't issue the letter with your new passport. In that case, you just take both passports.

It will therefore be an extension of stay because I began the process in Thailand.

A non-o visa can be bought in Thailand as well as your home country it’s a sticker if your on an extension it’s a stamp

Let's clarify, do you have a VISA or and extension of stay? Visas are generally issued outside Thailand and extensions are issued at Immigration

FIY have a bunch of 3 old passports all expired in Thailand, they "invalidate" them (old school scissors to cut the cover, yeah... 21st century French methods) I always had to take the old invalid passport along with the new one to immi for transfers.

@Nai ***
I thought that might be the procedure.

Immigration will not take your old passport off you

Thanks for your advice.

Then take the letter you got with the passport asking immigration to move the extension, pop down to immigration and they will transfer the stamps.

I will go and collect my passport from the agency. Will immigration need to see my old passport? Just asking as I think they will insist on taking the old one off me.

@Ray ******
yes Thai Immigration will want to see the old and new passport. Your One year extension of stay is in the Old passport.

@Lloyd *******
The letters are no longer issued by Embassy's.. that is a recent change.

@James *******
Certainly in Chiang Mai immigration have their own letter to request the stamps be transferred to the new passport, the previously issued letter is no longer required.
James ********
@David *******
the Embassy's no longer issue the letter. IF Chiang Mai Thai Immigration has their own, then fill it out and give to Chiang Mai Thai Immigration.

Thanks for your helpful reply.

Further note, apart from the "new passport " form available at the helpers desk to the left of the main entrance, immigration required copies of:

All non blank pages in old passport.

Photo ID page of new passport.

No charge for this "Move Stamp" service.
