how the heck do you get ahold of Bangkok Bank when your out of the country? I to the DTV right when it came out and paid a company a lot to get me a bank account with them which I used while there, I ended up going back to USA a year ago and lost my thai phone number that was tied to the account for the two factor authentication. Now I cant log in at all. Send the super detailed messages and never heard back from anyone more than a week ago. thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is struggling to access their Bangkok Bank account after losing their Thai phone number needed for two-factor authentication. Despite attempts to reach the bank via email, they have received no response and are unsure how to proceed. The community comments suggest that visiting the exact branch where the account was opened is essential for resolving the issue, as remote access is limited. Additionally, users warn of the importance of keeping the Thai phone number active to avoid losing access and caution against third-party services for setting up accounts.

Never lose your thai mob no it's easy to top up every do often. Time to visit Thailand in person and face the music. The only way to sort it out, unless they closed your account down?

That's all I want to know is if it wasn't closed or not, don't need access to it now. Don't want to go back if it was closed

GL, I’m sure you will make some progress, difficult though in Thailand, as long as you have a minimum balance, otherwise they keep taking fees out each month. I think B2000 balance as a minimum, might be different with some banks. You can also send a small sum into the account via Wise etc and see if it’s accepted, that might tell you if it’s still open?

Banks in south east Asia require you to present yourself in person.

A rule of thumb is to never keep any significant funds in there if you do not have a long term residency or a private banking client where you're considered a higher value customer and they assign you a dedicated account manager.

Or keep it in a country where you have citizenship.

If neither of the above options work for you, maybe self custody some crypto instead

OTP and Overseas Access

- OTP delivery: Bangkok Bank only sends one-time passwords (OTPs) to a Thai-registered mobile number. They don’t support sending OTPs to foreign numbers or email. If someone loses their Thai SIM, they effectively lose the ability to authenticate for mobile/internet banking.

- Locked accounts: If an account shows no activity for a long period (often a year or more), it can be flagged or restricted. Inactivity plus failed OTP verification usually results in being locked out.

- Resolution: The official stance is that the customer must visit a Bangkok Bank branch in Thailand to re-establish access, update their phone number, or reactivate the account. Remote resolution is extremely limited. (Ask AI)

When you come back here, go to your branch and sort it out.

thailand is stuck in the 90s, dont forget they still think bank books are to be taken seriously. As many have said, the only way to deal with this is go into a branch and wait and wait some more

How did you loose your Thai phone number? I've had mine for over 6 years and been out of the country several times. I did have access to my banking app blocked because my new passport number was not registered with the phone company but the account was never closed. I had to attend in person to the branch I opened the account at with document from the phone company. There was no other way until I returned to Thailand.

if you don't top up your Thai number every

months then your phone number will get "revoked" and given to someone else

I didn't use or top up my number for 7 months while in the UK. Therexwas about 500 baht credit on it which was still there when I got back. I think it depends on what sim card you have.

that's true, it also depends on what amount of money you top up your phone. 1000 baht top up would guarantee a longer lifespan of your sim card compared than 10 topups of 100baht. I myself got an annual deal with true for 2100baht so I don't need to top up for 13 months

That's the problem. You sound easily stressed (i.e. sensitive snowflake). Probaby better to stay in your Murican safe space.

Look at yourself now. You are stressing much more right now than if you opened your account by yourself .

Same as drivers license : unfortunately a friend of mine went the agent way like you and everything was fine until he got involved in a serious accident : the insurance company managed to investigate his driver license and found out it was faake. Result: insurance didn’t pay anything.

If you say you lost your Thai phone number and that's the reason you can't log in, your account probably isn't closed. I wouldn't draw attention to yourself and having the DTV or it might end up closed. When you are next in Thailand, get a new Thai number and then you can try to get the account transferred onto that. There is a risk they will notice the DTV at that point and close but I have heard of other people who had success doing this and no comment was passed on the DTV.

Exact same situation , you have to go to that exact bank branch in Thailand . Not any branch . The exact one it was opened . Then you fill in a form that they post to Bangkok to change the phone number .

is there any way to find out if my account was taken/banned or whatever remotely? This is the determining factor if I come back to the country or not

so if the money is gone, you have no desire to come to Thailand? It kind of sounds like you created a DTV to just hide money in Thailand

They are not going to respond to emails nor unlock unless you come in person. Not sure it matters if you paid a third party a lot of money or not. The bank didn’t care about that.

DTV_BegPecker I heard some people got their accounts and money taken for no reason with DTV as well as other visas, Im at the very minimum trying to ascertain if I was one of these victims. If they did take my account and $ then I will not be coming back. Is there any way to figure this out remotely?

they may close the account but they won't take your money

It is your money at the end .

But you must be there to claim it to your branch
