What should I do if I'm having trouble accessing my KrungThai mobile banking app as a DTV visa holder?

My husband and I currently hold DTV visas under digital nomad category because we are remote workers. we had our thai bank accounts opened at KrungThai with our previous student visas a year ago. Recently, his Krungthai “Next” mobile application crashed because of some bugs. So, he needs help with logging into his mobile application again at the bank. However, Krungthai banks keep denying to help logging in again because of new policy or something. Does anyone know any Krungthai bank branch that is foreigner-friendly or DTV-friendly?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user with a DTV visa is facing issues accessing their Krungthai bank's mobile application after it crashed. Despite attempts to resolve the login issue at the bank, they received no assistance due to new policies affecting foreign nationals and DTV holders. Other users suggested calling customer care, using ATMs to regain access, or even switching to other banks. Many shared their experiences regarding frozen accounts and policy changes affecting foreigners with DTV visas. It's highlighted that Krungthai and other banks are tightening regulations and are less friendly towards DTV holders.

Just try to call customer care on a working day . Otherwise withdrawal all the money for safety . Rules have changed more now. No banks allowed for dtv holders

I don’t have ktb but when i first set up online bangking, bbl tild me can do at the ATM myself. Try put your card in your banks STM and look for some other services button. The machine only sent an OTP text to my phone but it all worked and the atm doesnt care what visa you have 🙏 good luck

It didn't crash. They froze your account. It's a compliance crackdown. You typically have to report to the branch you opened your accounts to collect your money.

Note: I'm not on DTV so my KTB account are good and clear.

Avoid KTB.

Latest app update locks me out from my own account saying my phone was modified. The customer service woman also blames my phone and don't want to listen. Guess what? Samsung customer service clears my phone from any errors and other banking apps from multiple countries are still working. Awful app develompent and customer service. Bring your business somewhere else instead of this bank even though you have visas that allows opening accounts.

I tried at emquartier. I wanted it for a new phone same sim. They told me to bring a certificate of residence and then they would help me. You need to do a 99 day reporting first to be able to obtain the certificate. I traveled and reset my 90 days. So, I have to wait again and keep using my old phone.

Yes, we use Wise, but because my home country is under heavy sanctions, services like Wise or Payoneer are very limited for us. We also can’t use our local banks for international transfers. As remote workers with US-based employers, we need Thai bank accounts to get paid, and Thai residency is often required since companies can’t send foreign currency directly to our country.

Anonymous participant Can you not open a bank account in the US? If not, may I suggest trying Cambodia? Yes, you first need to get a 6 month extension of stay but you can literally get an extension + bank account opened within 2 business days of your arrival in the country. A visa extension is done through an agent and you pay extra for the express service. Another advantage is that Cambodian bank accounts offer USD by default. You're being paid in USD, hence even better for you.

Thank you for your suggestion. We might have to try that.

Anonymous participant Yes and I suggest applying for the business e visa for that purpose. Aka an E category visa. While I barely use it myself, but Cambodian banks also allow you to scan pay in Thailand (except for local bank accounts) and you'll receive a visa or MasterCard debit card for in store or online purchases too.

I have done it twice at the Samrong Imperial World Krungthai branch. Both times went smoothly for me. The last time was about one month ago, when I transferred the Krungthai NEXT application to my new phone. I originally opened my bank account while I was on ED visa, and I am currently on a DTV. They only took my last DTV extension page and didn’t ask any questions.

Lots of bank accounts being frozen at the moment. Bangkok bank really clamping down!

It is the Thai Authorities that has tightened the rules, so don’t shoot the banks

No bank is DTV friendly. If they find out you’re on DTV they’ll likely close your account

Anonymous participant 634 can you still withdraw all your money in such an instance?

@Charles *********
cannot if its locked

@Charles *********
also, if you have a Thai drivers license; use that as your ID instead of passport when going there. Then they cannot see your new visa
Mark ********
Anonymous participant 634 Banks are requesting to see current visa. Trying to hide it will only get the account frozen
Chris ********
Anonymous participant 634 drivers licence is not ID. You need passport or Thai ID card

@Chris *******
I have never used my passport in the bank except for when opening up the account, ever since then I only used my driver's license. It has been working without fault for years, have never been asked for additional ID

Anonymous participant 634 things have changed. Good luck

of course. They cannot legally keep your money

Anonymer Teilnehmer 634 well, many bangkok bank holders already wait 2 weeks+ for their money from their locked/closed accounts
