What should I do to set up Bangkok Bank digital banking on my new phone without losing my account?

ORIGINAL POSTER
Hello all,

This is a "& more" post. I have had a Bangkok Bank account with digital banking for a couple of years now. Recently, I purchased a new phone and need to go through the set up process for digital banking again. With all of the news about foreigners' accounts getting suspended for no longer qualifying (long term visa, property ownership), what is the best course of action to get assistance in configuration of digital banking on my new phone? Do I risk it and just go into a branch, contact an agent to assist in the matter or something else?

I use my account frequently to pay my rent, utilities and typical day-to-day stuff like buying food or ordering items from Lazada. Losing it would significantly complicate my financial responsibilities.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions !

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat is seeking advice on how to set up Bangkok Bank's digital banking on their new phone, amidst concerns about recent account suspensions for foreigners. Community members suggest that if the phone number hasn't changed, they can log in using their existing credentials, or use the app’s settings to manage their device. Some advise visiting a bank branch for verification and assistance, especially if the phone number has changed or if the user experiences issues with face recognition for app access.

I had to go into the bank to transfer BBL app. SCB I could do myself. Many years ago I could move the BBL app myself with an ATM card to request the customer ID, but it wouldn’t let me this time. Annoying but painless to go the branch.

The major hassle I found, I can not get the facial recognition procedure to work on my new phone. Have to use old phone for mobile banking 😞

Just walk into your bank with passport and statement from phone company with only your name on it. They'll take care of the rest

Unfortunately Need to go into a BKK bank branch and update personal details

If it's just a new phone, then just follow the instructions in the app. The bio bit works fine in the BBK app... I only struggle, because I can't follow the instructions, without my glasses... You should only need to go in the bank, if you fail the face scan...

If you have a new Sim, then definitely go in the bank to register the number.

People having problems, don't use their phone for a while and when their mobile account lapses, the mobile provider give the number out to a new customer and then the names don't match...

I just bought a new phone also recently, no issues at all, if you keep the same number. No visit of bank was necessary in my case, Bkk bank.
Trevor **********
This is very confusing Max Fredriksson. You seem to have hijacked Lanny Toms post.
Max *************
@Trevor *********
Because some of the guys don't have a clue how to use the app and what they can do in Settings.
Trevor **********
@Max ************
ok, but I'm easily confused when I'm trying to learn 555

If you are in thailand using a new phone with the old number proceed to any atm with your debit card and ask for new login ID the atm will verify u asking for birthday ....after which the atm will give you a bank slip with the new id and will sms u the new pin with your registered phone number ......login the bank app with the new ID and new pin afterwards change the pin u like....if you are out of thailand den too bad
Ling *****
They are not going to close you down for buying a new phone. I just walked into the bank and said, this is my new phone, can you help me set it up? And they did, didn't asked me anything else.
Max *************
@Ling ****
Yes, but you could have done it yourself in Settings - Device management. The app will detect your new phone and you just delete the old one.
Trav **********
Panicking about nothing.
Frank **********
Since you have a new phone just download the app onto your phone. If the phone number did not change you should bte able to log in as long as the phone number matches.

What visa are you on?
Kenny ******
It happened to me a few weeks ago ago when I purchased anew iPhone 16 went to bangkok bank with a Thai friend and the staff had it up and running in 5 minutes 😀
Richard ********
@Kenny *****
I have also had to go to the bank and have them update my phone number details and provide a receipt to show the number was registered correctly with AIS. Provided that and it was turned back on the next day.
Richard ********
@Kenny *****
like the others it is possible to change in the app, it detects it when you log in, and then when in you acc go to the profile and you need delete the old phone add the new one detected.👍👍
Kenny ******
And I bought the phone in market village and they took my old phone in part x and I asked them if all my apps would be swapped over she said yes only the next day I realised my Loyds uk wasn’t working my wise app wasn’t working and my bangkok app was not working I went back to the shop but after 20 minutes they just gave up on the problem so I had to try myself and couldn’t do it my Thai friend suggested we go into the bank and yes 5 minutes later the assistant had it up and running 😳😳😳😳
Max *************
@Kenny *****
Why the need for a visit to your branch when buying a new phone? I've had several phones over the years and no problem what so ever. I've been with Bangkok Bank many years.
Kenny ******
@Max ************
well that’s what happened to me why would I say different if it didn’t happen 😳😳😳😳😳😳
Max *************
@Kenny *****
You could have done it yourself in the app. Believe me.
Jesper *******
@Max ************
you are talking nonsense bkk bank app can only work on one phone once they detect you are on another phone trying to login u will be shut out
Jay *******
@Jesper ******
if they changed phones but not sim cards they may not have to go in.
Max *************
@Jesper ******
You can delete a device in the app and just use the new detected device = your new phone. It's in Settings, under "Device management". Get it? How do you think I'm doing it when I'm buying a new phone? Do you think I'm visiting my branch?
Jesper *******
@Max ************
can't login into my app in my new phone have to go to atm to request for new login ID....done it couple of times whenever I change phone....maybe you are special
Lynnette *******
Surely this is only an issue using apps.
Max *************
@Lynnette ******
No, you must register phone number and email-address for your account to work properly. Together with passport number it's a part of your profile.
Lynnette *******
@Max ************
so that's not a problem surely? I popped in and updated my account, no issue at all. I don't use apps.
Max *************
@Lynnette ******
You don't use bank apps? Then you're probably one out of very very few. I can use internet banking as well,but it's easier using a bank app.
Lynnette *******
@Max ************
no, I don't. So I don't have any problems.
Max *************
@Lynnette ******
Even when using a Thai banks internet bank,your phone number, email-address and passport number has to be updated if being changed.
Lynnette *******
@Max ************
same for my bank in UK. No big deal. Not sure why so many people getting all worked up about it.
Max *************
@Lynnette ******
Some people here don't understand what they can do themselves using the app. It's like a blind leading a blind.
Lynnette *******
@Max ************
I know what apps do. I've no need. Some people get so annoyed when others don't do what they do. Lol.
Max *************
@Lynnette ******
Do you have a Thai bank account and when did you open it?
Lynnette *******
@Max ************
why do you need to know?
Max *************
@Lynnette ******
Because several Thai branches prefer foreigners to use mobile banking and they don't even inform customers about internet banking. I've had Thai bank accounts before mobile banking even existed in Thailand, meaning I can use internet banking if I want with both KBank and Bangkok Bank.
Lynnette *******
@Max ************
up to you. I'm not interested in an app.
Max *************
@Lynnette ******
I answered your question but you obviously didn't get that. My theory is that you simply don't understand the difference between internet banking and mobile banking in Thailand when it comes to functions.
Lynnette *******
@Max ************
I do. But as I've said I don't use an app. Not sure why you have theory that thinks people "don't understand", just because they don't use an app. Your arrogance speaks volumes about the sort of person you are.
Lynnette *******
@Max ************
yes. And 18 months ago.

Well,if you have a bank account back home, I guess your phone number and email-address etc etc have to be up to date. At my bank back home it's mandatory. Doing it online is by far the easiest way.
Jay *******
You need to get th receipt from your carrier for your new number and take it to the bank. I did this 2 weeks ago. They send your information in and it takes 5 days to validate your new number at my bank. They sent me an email saying I could now use my new number. I use Bangkok bank. May be different at other banks.

Maybe I read that wrong, did your phone number change?
Frank **********
@Jay ******
yes 100%
Max *************
@Jay ******
You can actually change phone number in the app in Settings - My profile.
Jay *******
@Max ************
I had to go in and show proof the number was mine.
Max *************
@Jay ******
Ok,but did you try to change it in the app?
Jay *******
@Max ************
yes, the app said I had to go to the bank to change. Possibly because I had opened the account on a tourist visa last year. So I updated my visa information at the bank in 30 minutes but needed my Sim card receipt which they sent to headquarters. My new number was approved in 5 days and I could then simply change it in the app. A lot of variables and everyone's situation could be a little different. That was just my experience. May not apply to the op if he was already on a long term visa when he opened the account
Wannikea *********
3 items need to sync between phone provider and bank, your account/passport name, your phone number, your passport number.
Max *************
@Wannikea ********
And email-address. The only thing you can't change yourself in Bangkok Banks app is passport number.
Max *************
If you still have your old mobile banking app and can log into it,you can actually change your phone number in Settings (if you also changed sim-card,that is).
Jan ******************
Same for me, no issues as I kept my old number. Just downloaded the app again and activated in the new telephone.
John **********
I've always done it myself as long as your number doesn't change but you do need your customer number (not your account number) to do it
Frank **********
Yesterday I go to true.l Get new phone number. Take receipt to bank.5 Days they inform u to look in to app.
Frank **********
Passport as well
Colin **********
I think you only need your (old) user name and password, to login it.

The only complication is if your phone number has changed.
Max *************
@Colin *********
You can change phone number in Settings-My profile.
Colin **********
@Max ************
yes, I didn't say it right, at AIS your phone number needs to be verifed with your name. This maybe done with the new account, or may not.
Max *************
@Colin *********
A sim-card has to be in your name with every sim-card provider.
Colin **********
@Max ************
indeed, but i just recently got a second sim, in my name and with my passport, I called AIS about something and I asked about the second sim they said "its in your name" but not verified, you need to go to AIS and have if processed with your passport" I think there are two processes.
