Account Suspension – Bank of Ayudhya

I’ve been overseas for the past 6 months and found my Krungsri account suspended. It seems to be due to not verifying that my phone number matches the account name (I never got around to it). Down 500 baht, not much but I bloody well want it back.

My Kasikorn account is still working fine.

Anyone else having access issues?

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat's account at Bank of Ayudhya was suspended due to failure to verify their phone number's match with the account holder's name while they were abroad. Other users in the comments shared similar experiences and suggested that the account holder needs to visit the bank in person to verify their identity and phone number to regain access and retrieve their funds.

Website will stop working from 15, October 2025. There is a notice on the website. We will have to rely on mobile app only.
Michael ********
well yes if you didnt verify a phone number what do you expect. Just go and verify your number

I believe if you verify with one bank, that verification will carry forward to any others you hold

I have this happen to me. I live in the US (I'm Thai)and didn't pay for my Thai number (you were supposed to keep the number if you want to keep your account) and 2 months ago I was in Thailand I tried to get my account back but I still couldn't because I don't have my thai phone number. also the reason they locked because I had several attempts to unlock the app and if they locked because of that it will be impossible without phone number. And I also can't open the account with that bank again :( . The only way to solve this is to find whoever has my Thai phone now :(

Yes for KTB Bank

You just need to go in and verify. I had to do it with my KBank, for whatever reason, I didnt need to do it with my Krungthai though despite it being the same number. Took me less than 15 minutes.

Krungsri Bank is difficult to open an account with and can be easily suspended. I think your SIM card might not match the passport you used for the bank account.

Chan Nyein Aungstrange how we all get different results. Krungsri were the only bank that would open and account for me recently. Was done in

minutes. The three biggest recommended banks all said no.

If you received a debit card, the bank automatically withdraws a monthly fee.

Thai banks are very precise, they don’t do anything against the account holder unless the account holder is in violation.

As this bank isn’t my primary bank account, I do not maintain a debit card with them. Kinda ridiculous to pay for a debit card as in Australia or New Zealand many banks provide them complimentary.

I don’t believe I was in violation. If my Thai primary bank had the same standard to work off it seems I am compliant as I can still access my banking

also just as a note if a ‘traveler’, best never compare countries. Whether culture, laws or industry, all your values should be left at the border, however the country operates is ‘the right way’.
Gregory ********
Had till 30 june to match account holder and phone number owner—closed as you did not do—due to scammers opening multiple accounts under different names—go in and verify yourself andcyou will get your 500

I guess I’ll leave this until 2026 when I’ll next be in Thailand.

You will likely need to visit in person and verify yourself and your phone number registered to your account.
Jordan *****
Unless you purchase a Thai phone number in your name and register it with the account at the bank, in person, you won’t get access to it again

still don't work - I updated all data twice and was blocked due to mismatch 🤷

if you’ve ever worked a corporate job… you’ll find the most simple things just don’t work.

I guess this is my fault really, expecting my SIM card registered in my name matching one of my bank accounts in my name.

Kinda bullshit really… I bet a local wouldn’t have ran into this issue. My Thai girlfriend who’s based in Australia with me seems to have her bank accounts running just fine (Bangkok bank, Krungthai, government savings bank)

Formally, I maintain a Thai phone number which is registered in my name.

The last interaction I had with my provider involved me changing my phone plan from post paid to prepaid which required them matching my physical passport to the account they had on file.

Just today, as my wife flew from Japan to Thai, during her flight I sent 100K THB to her BKK Bank account, the money was waiting on her. A Thai national, her Internet banking that I have access to.
Jim *******
Quite likely, the account was opened with no visa number. Happened to many farangs who had their accounts open before this crackdown. Even 15 years ago.

@Jim ******
its got nothing to do with visa numbers. My wife who is thai had to go in and change her phone number for her KBank because the number she used when she opened the account wasn't in her name.

The account was opened legally with a legitimate non-immigrant B-A visa

In the near future my return trips to Thailand will be on the basis of non-immigrant visas

Have you tried to access it via website, not the app ?

even when I was based in Thailand I never was able to access the website banking for some reason. Only ever the app.

Just thought to share my experience as I think this may affect other people
Kim *********
@Samuel *******
you apply for access to the web version at the bank.

@Samuel *******
mine works via website only since last March or April when they updated the app, and it’s signed me off and no longer opening. I’ve even tried to use my Thai sim, as I’m out of country, turn the WiFi off as they always ask to let the app see it was real me, but to no avail…

The website version works well though

My girlfriend insists I should recover it.

Other than that, I couldn’t really care.
