Do I need to update my TM30 after leaving and returning to Thailand on a tourist visa?

TM30 updating after leaving/returning to Thailand - my understanding is that it is no longer necessary to have TM30 updated (living in Chiang Mai on a tourist visa) after each short trip out of the country. Could a well-informed person please let me know if this remains the case? (I've searched the group but not found this issue addressed.)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The TM30, which is a reporting system for foreigners staying in Thailand, has specific guidelines that can vary by immigration office. The general consensus among comments is that for tourists returning to the same registered address, updating the TM30 might not be necessary. However, there are nuances based on individual circumstances, as some individuals reported that their local immigration office requires a new TM30 after international travel. It’s advised to verify with the local immigration office due to varying interpretations of the rules.

and I think the O/P has enough information to be thoroughly confused as to their course of action, which is why they need to CHECK with the immigration office 🙂

We are done, thanx one and all for the comments, good luck to the O/P

You aren't on any long term Visa with reentry permit etc, so you definitely have to have your landlord refile.

Immigration office dependent, go and ask your local office

Since about 2021, From a legal point of view, if you are returning to your permantly registered property (as per tm30) within the registered stay period, [checkout date future or null], there is no need to re-register, this applies to both internal and external travel of Thailand. This should be fine for 90 day reporting purposes eg on-line. However, if visiting imigration many offices will insist on a new TM30 (especially when the check-in date is prior to your visa extention or arrival in country date. Problems can arise with internal travel, where your last hotel/etc don't fill in the checkout date of their tm30, and this becomes your address on record. I travel a fair bit within Thailand to hotels and never redo my tm30 and dont have a 90 day reporting problem, but i always register a new tm30 for my extension of stay done at CW.

I’m at Surat Thani immigration, I travelled out of Thailand and I asked before leaving if I needed to do a new TM30 on my return and they said no. I went to immigration last week to get a residency certificate and a different immigration officer said that I must do a new TM30 as I’d been to Hua Hin recently. So it really depends who you talk to!

The 'rules' say that you must file a tm30 within 24-hrs of entering Thailand.. it doesn't matter what type of visa or entry stamp you have in your passport.. that is irrelevant.. if you fail to do it you can be fined.. although technically it is the responsibility of the landlord and they are at fault it is you that gets fined.. if staying in a hotel or guest house they will usually keep your passport overnight to attend to this.. but if staying in a private residence or with friends or relatives it often gets overlooked.. if you enter and leave the country with no interaction with immigration (or the police) then it's possible the absence of a tm30 will never get picked up.. but if you want to extend your stay its essential to have done it.. for people living here on long term visa's / extensions.. travelling around the country and staying at temporary addresses.. then failing to file a tm30 for your temporary addresses is perhaps more of a help rather than a hindrance.. since your home province residence has not been over written on the tm30 system and there is no need to refile.. but if you've stayed at a hotel and they filed a tm30 then you must refile upon returning home.. since your future immigration filings (such as 90-day reports) will fail if you don't align the systems data.. and the fact it takes less than 2 minutes to do online means that its not onerous.. so imo its best to just do it.. so as to avoid any problems down the line 👍

There is no consistent answer. I'd say that if you are due to renew your visa etc then make the tm30 from the last trip near your renew date. Otherwise don't bother

I'm on a Non-O (retirement) and Chiang Mai told me if it's travel within Thailand there's no need for a new TM30, but if travel is out of the country then they need a new one. But..it's a bit of a catch 22, if I travel within Thailand I can't do an online 90 day due to the address mismatch, so I just do a new TM30 every time as it only takes 30 seconds.

exact, I have always asked my landlord to do a new TM30 when travelling outside Thailand.

I enter mid-July and today done my 90 days report online in Phuket; accepted within 1h.

Since 2.5 years I could always do my reports online without any issues. Never showed-up in person for the 90 days reports.

The last time I did an online report after an overseas trip they made me do it in person. This after it worked fine for a couple of years.

@Kevin **********
you had a new TM30 filled-in?

Maybe they like my name in Phuket 🙏

@Wolf *****
Yes, I always do it when I return from travelling. The condo staff do it. They explicitly told me in the rejection email it was because I'd travelled overseas. After telling everyone they wanted people to use the online system to lighten the load on immigration. Only Thailand 😁

If you have permission from Immigration to make short trips abroad while living on a tourist visa and coming back each and every time to the same address, it is no problem.

If you did not discuss this with your local office, I can not tell you.

Officially you have to report within 24 hours after arrival at the address.

That means when you left Thailand and return or when you decide to stay overnight at another address.

I depends on your local immigration. I’ve been on the same one for 7 years, been out of country many times, but my local office is Nonthaburi.

I live in Nonthaburi and I asked immigration that specific question when I first moved here. They said no need to submit a new one if moving within Thailand but need a new one every time enter from overseas….

Seems no consistent policy even within immigration departments.

When did you ask as it all changed last year. I didnt file one for over 20 years and when going to do one for my mum about 10 to 15 years ago when they were having a supposed crackdown they asked why am I bothering. However last month I was told I have to do one after every short stay even in the same province.

They told me, if on same visa (re-entry permit) and returning to same address, no need to update.
