What is the best way to efficiently update my TM30 when reentering Thailand, and are there any TM30 regulations for domestic travel within the country?

Hi. I know it’s mandatory to “update” one’s TM30 each time u reenter Thailand, even if was for quick trip — but how is this most efficiently achieved? Have any of you resourceful expats learned to both comply with but simplify the process? AND are there TM30 requirements related to traveling within the country — like if I were to spend a week staying at hotels up north, and then return home to Bkk? Thanks to all you posters!

TLDR : Answer Summary
Expats in Thailand must update their TM30 registration upon reentering the country, though the process can vary by immigration office. It is often recommended to register online for convenience, and many expats prefer to handle this themselves to avoid bothering their landlords. However, some immigration offices may not require an updated TM30 if returning to the same address without lengthy absences. For domestic travel, the registration may not need to be updated unless engaging with immigration services that require a TM30. Overall, while TM30 compliance is important, experiences suggest leniency can exist, depending on individual circumstances.

Have a friend long term had problems with tm30 when out of town told immigration he’d gone camping

The law doesn't require a new TM30 to be recorded when you are returning to an abode within the check-in/check-out period.

However, if you need to have a face to face with an IM for a process that includes producing a TM30, many will require an updated version.

Depends on what office my office (Jomtien) has told me when returning to the same address on a re entry permit you don’t have to update

Wouldn’t stress over it, IO officers are very lenient, just be polite. Mine was 3 months past the due date & with politeness, I was given a pass.

My personal experience. Border run in January and no need to do new TM30 because I was returning to the same condo. February did 10 days in a hotel and again there was no need because I was returning to the same condo.

The requirement to file a new TM30 after going overseas depends on the Immigration office, it's not mandatory at all offices.

Immigration told me that it is not needed to do again every time...

some immigration offices only want a new tm30 if you actually move address. Some don't even care if you have been outside Thailand, as long as you returned to the same address when coming back. Many though want a new one even if you've just been staying in a hotel or similar in another part of Thailand, or even the same province.

It's quick and easy though to both register the address online for tm30, and then to just register a new one every time, after you've been registered somewhere else when being out. Or at least before having to do anything at immigration again. It takes only a few minutes to do online.

That's what I was told, but as in every case it's up to the officer handling your case.

I do it myself aswell. My landlady is glad not having to bother with it every time I travel around in Thailand and then come back. This happens at least every month several times.

You only need an updated TM30 if you want something from immigration (like CoR or extension etc.) or want to do the 90 days report online.

I just got the ID details from my landlord and registered online, so I just do it myself each time I return. That way I don't have to bother the landlord and he's happy with that

Do it online here.
