What should I do with my Non-O visa that allows a 90-day stay in Thailand?

I am in UK and just got a non-o visa by way of marriage but surprised it is valid for use up to 12 Dec 2022. It says length of stay 90 days and its multiple entry. It cost £150. I thought they were just issuing 90 day ones. Does this mean I will have to do a boarder run every 90 days which could be a bit awkward these days. Got a flight out on the 90 day mark but was not intending using it. Will I be OK with 90 day insurance but what about if I have to exit and come back in.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has obtained a Non-O visa based on marriage, valid for 90 days with multiple entries, expiring on December 12, 2022, and is concerned about needing to perform border runs every 90 days. Community members clarify that the user can apply for a yearly extension based on marriage for 1,900 baht after submitting necessary documentation and mention the importance of obtaining re-entry permits if they plan to leave Thailand.

just so you're clear about what you're doing.

You're not converting ANYTHING.

You already have a Non-O visa, (single or multi entry makes no difference) what you will be doing is applying for a "yearly extension of stay" based on marriage at the immigration office for 1900baht by submitting the correct documentation; photos, copies, bank book, bank letter, etc.

You will apply for the year extension, pay the money and you will get a 30 day under consideration stamp, during that time the immigration office might send someone to do an in home visit (or they might not), and at the end of that stamp you go back and get the year extension inked in. THEN if you're going to leave the country you need to buy a re-entry permit to go with that year extension.

I have seen immigration offices "suggest" you use the visa you got (in your case an year long multi-entry Non-O visa which means you had to exit/re-enter every 90 days) especially if it's the first entry on it (seeing as if you get a year extension you just binned that whole one year multi-entry Non-O away)

BUT with that being said

I'd have told the immigration officer you understood you'd be losing the visa and you would rather get the year extension.

I personally haven't seen anyone turned down you like you relate you were. BUT it's not beyond the realm of possibility.

hi, it’s my understanding, that if you have a one year OVISA multiple entry for example, based on marriage or having kids with a Thai. You can only apply for the one year extension when the visa is close to expiry, not anytime during its validity. At least that’s the case in Chiang Mai.

ok, I’ll try that myself if true, but in the past, Chiang Mai immigration have refused to do this until the visa is close to the one year expiry date.

at the time I had a one year o, based on marriage. I later extended it for one year, with multiple entry re-entry permit. But was knocked back on a previous attempt to do the one year extension. I’m going to work soon

Overaeas, and the one year extension will I’ll expire while I’m away. So I’m guessing the best bet, is to apply for a single

Entry O visa and then I can do the one year extension on that?

it’s relevant as it was recommended he get a one year extension, which goes back to my point regarding the refusal at chiang mai immigration.

what’s your problem pal? I replied to Tods comment recommending the OP do a one year extension, with my experience at Chiang Mai immigration. I stated that I was NOT allowed to to do the one year extension until my one year, OVISA was due to expire. It was you that asked what I currently have in my passport, I didn’t mention my status until you asked.

A little difficult making border runs now since the land borders are closed. I did it for 15 years and will probably do it again once the land borders open. The unknown is what will be the requirements to get back into Thailand from Laos.

which while true doesn't negate anything I said as far as what they would be doing when they apply for a yearly extension 😉

OR...pony up the 400,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank account in your name to get a one year extension of stay as married to Thai.

I've already got that in the bank so could I convert this multiple entry visa to a normal Non-O before the first 90 day mark. Was my mistake to select Multiple entry on the visa webpage?
