I am stamped into Thailand until 5-11-2018

Been here for over a year on a non o multi entry based on marriage to my Thai wife

Did a border bounce every 90 days

Getting ready to apply for one year extension based on marriage

Have all the required documentation ready to go

My question is I have an emergency back in the US and may need to fly back immediately,can I come back on say 24-10-2018 on a 30 day visa on arrival and apply for the one year extension the next day when I have to file a new tm30

I won’t have a return flight out of Thailand when I come back because this is now home

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is currently in Thailand on a Non-O multi-entry visa based on marriage and has faced an emergency requiring them to fly back to the US. They wish to know if they can return to Thailand on October 24, 2018, on a 30-day visa and still apply for a one-year extension based on marriage the next day. Responses indicate they can obtain a re-entry permit to keep their status valid until their visa's expiration date (November 5th), allowing for the one-year extension application to proceed without starting over, despite some confusion around the timeline of necessary actions.

You can get a visa extension up to 45 days in advance in Chiang Mai. I have heard it is a shorter advance time in other locations. Sigh. TIT.

45 days before your current stamp expires is actually the most amount of time allowed before you can apply for a new extension than other locations . :O

Most all other immigration offices (other than Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Phuket) are 30 days or less and Pattaya is 15 days or less. ;)

See things aren't as bleak as you paint it up there in Chiang Mai :P

Do what

, suggested, Get a re-entry permit

You're on the last 90 day entry of your non-O , you're stamped in until the 5th of Nov. You're leaving BUT comin' back on on the 24th of Oct.

With a re-entry permit as long as you'd return BEFORE the 5th of Nov you'll be stamped in until that date. Then you can apply for your yearly extension of stay once you get back without having to start the whole process over

all year long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant visas of any type (other than ones with the suffix of A or X) are good for 90 day entry stamps. It's NOT the visa that lets you stay in thailand it's the 90 day entry stamp you're on after you stamp in.

As long as you apply for an extension of stay BEFORE the 90 day stamp runs out you're fine, it doesn't matter if the visa itself expired or not because that visa only lets you into the country and it's not what lets you stay here. The arrival stamp does that

Just to double check because this is new info to me. You can still get you non-O extension after the original visa is expired but within those last 90-day entry leading up to the 15th month? Does this also count for non-B?

You can get a reentry permit at the airport or thai immigration I believe you need two photos and 1000 baht or more for a multi entry

If your o-visa is valid till 5.11.18 then each time you enter the country you get 90 day. Up till the last day of the visa. So in fact, if you enter on 5.11.18 you get stamped in 90 days. This is my experience on a B-visa i'm pretty sure the same rule applies for an O visa. However, the extension you will need to apply before the visa expires.

Tom Elliott That is also new information to me. Ok then better wait for advise from one of the experts. I only talk from personal experience. But again... this is the first time in 25 years I hear you can apply for an extension after the visa expiry date. This will be interesting.

I don’t think that is true talked to Tod Daniels months ago and he said I could do that border bounce just before that visa expired and then apply for the one year extension when that last stamp has less than 30 days left on it.........hopefully Tod will respond to my post

@Tom ********
your last day to apply for an extension was 10.8.18

@Tom ********
ahh... then you have to start over again. You can't get an extension after the visa is expired.
