TLDR : Answer Summary
A 60-day Single Entry Tourist Visa in Thailand allows re-entry only once. If you exit Thailand and wish to re-enter before your initial 60 days are up, you must purchase a re-entry permit. The re-entry permit costs 1000 baht for a single entry or 3800 baht for multiple entries. However, be aware that obtaining the re-entry permit does not extend the duration on your original 60-day stamp.

Okay,
@Ma**
, I think you're not understanding what a re-entry permit does. When you entered thailand on a single entry tourist visa you were stamped in for 60 days.

If you want to exit the country and return within those 60 days you could buy a re-entry permit. It WON'T give you more time on the 60 day stamp, but it will let you exit/re-entry the country and get stamped in with the original admitted until date you got when you first entered. A re-entry permit does NOT add any days to the time you're allowed to stay here.

You usually get a 30 day extension ONCE on a 60 day tourist visa at the immigration office for 1900baht

@Ma**
, you could buy a multiple re-entry permit for 3800baht and that would let you come and go all you want and when you re-enter thailand you'd be stamped in for your original admitted until stamp date.

that is exactly my understanding, I only want to know whether I can get a re-entry more than once with a single entry tourist visa.

Do you mean go out of Thailand and come back for a 30 day Exempt Entry?

You can only enter once on an SETV, hence the name single entry. You can buy a re-entry permit, 1 entry 1000bt, multiple re-entries 3800bt.

The visa is an Entrance ticket. Some are Single, others multiple. Once you are at an entrence point the Immigration Officer stamps Used on the Single Entry Visa and give you a second stamp Admitted to stay ../../.. date. With the re-entry permit you can go and come back but you will get the same date as Admitted to stay.

I always thought that a SETV ment exactly that.

in that case it may make sense, yes. You should be able to get a second single re-entry permit on the same visa, 1000B at immigration or the airport, I don't believe there is any issue getting a second one. The "single entry" applies to the initial entry, it doesn't relate to re-entry permits.

. You can leave and re-enter if you buy a re-entry permit. It will only keep your existing 'admitted until' stamp alive.

no I dont want to get another exempt entry, I only want to know whether I can get a re-entry with my current visa (which ends in September) as I need to travel and come back with the same visa. I have already got 1 re-entry with the same visa. Question is can I get another one? or single entry visa means single re-entry?

Maha you can buy a re-entry permit as Steve says but it rarely makes sense on a SETV, people who buy these are usually on longer-term visas where it makes sense that they want to keep their current stay active.

It usually doesn't make sense for people on a SETV as when they go out and come back they usually get another 30 days visa-free at the airport anyway. A re-entry permit only keeps your *current* "admitted until" date active, you don't get a *new* 60 days on re-entry like you would with a METV, so in most cases you would be as well just coming back on an exempt entry. Maybe post exactly what it is you want to do, and your nationality, and people could give better advice.
