Do I need to report my residence to local immigration after arriving in Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa?

Hello everyone,

couldnt find anything about it, most probably because I dont know how it is called, would much appreciate if anyone could help.

But when I arrive in Thailand at the airport and go through all the immigration there, after going to the place where I am about to stay, do I need to go to the local immigration to tell them where exactly I am staying?

Is that a rule, or just something I missunderstood, maybe not all visas have to do that? Got a 60 day tourist visa.

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Upon arriving in Thailand with a 60-day tourist visa, it is indeed a legal requirement to report your whereabouts within 24 hours. Typically, your hotel or landlord will handle this process through a TM30 filing, which is necessary for immigration purposes. While hotels usually manage this automatically, short-term rentals like Airbnbs may not. If staying in a rented residence, you may need to file it yourself with proper documentation. It's important to note that immigration offices may have different requirements, especially if you plan to extend your visa.

If you stay in hotel , they will do for you (Dopa, Tm30 for immigration online system hotel will send report everyday) ,but if you rent a house( mine rented about 1 year not a tourist visa) you can do by yourself but need to have documents from the owner about rental agreements , house registration, and filling form that’s need to have duty stamp 🤣😂 you can ask owner do for you but mostly I do by myself.

My mother in law (holding Chinese passport) do a tourist visa but we not do a report, she came here to stay with us since January 19th ,last week we just went to immigration for extended stay 30 days. and we got it. If you got like 1 year visa , you must do a 90days report, but if you just travel visa ,just let hotel do for you or don’t need to

The accommodation place should lodge the TM30 within 24 hours of your arrival with immigration its their duty to do it not yours

It’s is law that a foreigner must be reported their whereabouts (where they’re staying) within 24 hours of arrival.

In theory your hotel or landlord should do this on your behalf. Most hotels will using an online system. Many AirBnBs or other short term lets won’t. It’s called a TM30 filing.

If you don’t need interaction with immigration whilst you’re here (like an extension) then there’s really little need. They don’t check if you had one filed when you leave.

Some offices won’t even need it for an extension but some do.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am staying in a condo, last year the landlord forgot to do it with the immigration and had to pay a fine.

I have rent the condo for 1 year, but this time i didnt tell them that i am coming back. How often you have to do this?

Now I am already here for 2+ weeks and havent done it. Didnt expect it needs to be done in 24h. Guess i have to do it tommorow then with the immigration

OK I’ll let others confirm their policy as I don’t know it but let’s just say they can have some of the strangest regulations around 😀

Depends on the office you’d use. Some require a filing on every entry to the country. Some require a filing if you’ve stayed at a hotel out of province. Some don’t need a filing if you’re returning to the same address. Tell us the office you’d use and some can perhaps confirm their policy.
