Hi all

when I do travel to Thailand on a 60 days tourist visa, do I still need to file the TM30 on this visa at the local immigration office or police station within 24 hours of arriving ? Slightly confused

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
When traveling to Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa, whether you need to file a TM30 form depends on your accommodation. If you're staying in a hotel, the hotel management is responsible for filing the TM30 within 24 hours of your arrival. If you're staying at a private residence, such as a friend's house or an apartment you rent, it's your responsibility to ensure the TM30 is filed at the local immigration office. Failure to do so may result in fines, which you will incur regardless of the property owner's actions. It is generally advised to file at the immigration office rather than a police station, as many report difficulties when trying to file there.

I'm shutting this down:

1. *IF* you are staying in a hotel, the TM30 is the responsibility of the hotel owner to file.

2. *IF* you are staying at someone's property (like a friend, your wife, property you rent), it's your responsibility to make sure the TM30 is filed. *YOU*, not the property owner, will get fined for not filing it the next time you're at the immigration office.

3. The maximum fine is 2K THB, most immigration offices charge 1,600 THB, Bangkok charges 800 THB (see

I never heard of the property owner being fined; all the fines are passed to you.

5). I never heard of the property owner being fined; all the fines are passed to you.

4. The Chanote is the property deed, and the immigration office may require it to submit the TM30. Ask your local immigration office what they expect.

5. You can only file the TM30 at the local immigration office. Even though the law says you can submit it to the local police office, I never seen any police office accept it. IF they accept it, they would fill out the bottom part of the TM30 and give it back to you.

6. If you are an actual tourist, hopping around hotels, and not planning on renting or doing anything at the immigration office before leaving, ignore the TM30. You will not be fined when you leave the country.

7. For the specific TM30 policy WHERE YOU LIVE, contact the immigration office and ask them. There are 70+ immigration offices, and we don't know what all their polices are.

If anyone has any evidence showing the opposite, please contact a mod and we'll reopen comments.

Hotels will handle it for you. If you staying else where, the owner is responsible.. But probably won't. It is a legal requirement to have filed.

If you just here on a 60 days TR visa and then leave.. Then you should not worry. Only when you do a 90 day report or extending your visa does a foreigner need to worry if tm30 was filed properly or not.

What happens in the future is unknown; and it's hard to guess what they would do.

What is a chanote

@Alan ******
a chanote is a land title.

The chanote is the title deed to the property; it shows who owns the property.

Let me ask, are you going to be an actual tourist, OR are you going to be staying someone (i.e. a wife) or renting an apartment?

IF you're staying in any hotels (including ASQ), it's the hotel's responsibility to file the TM30.

If you're staying in an apartment that you, or someone else rent, a TM30 is filed *AT THE LOCAL IMMIGRATION OFFICE*, by mail, or online.

I never heard of anyone filing them at a police station.

You, or the property owner, have 24 *business* (not actual) hours to file the TM30.

Several years ago, I tried to do it at the local police station without any result. They had no idea what I wanted and what they should do. This was at an adjacent Amphoe to Buri Ram city.

I’ll try when I get over there at the police station because it’s only 10 minutes from my wife’s house, one and a half hours away from the immigration office

Which city do you live in? The absolutely worse thing that will happen is the police will smile, take the TM30, and then do nothing with it because they would have no idea what to do.

I know the police stations in Bangkok and the surrounding areas (Nakhom Pathom, Ratchaburi, Kanchanburi, etc..) won't accept the TM30.

in case police happens to accept TM30, you would definitely be able to get the receipt (bottom part of the form).

Agreed, I would check with them before trying to file TM30.

I wouldn't risk submitting it in a police station; just go to the immigration office in Ubon Ratchathani :)

it says in the 'official rules' you can file at a police station where you live IF no immigration office is close by BUT I have never heard a successful report of a police station actually letting someone file there and instead they send you to the immigration office (no matter how far away it is :P)

Can't do them at the local police station (and haven't been able to for a good number of year)

You or your land lord files a TM30 when you move in. Most offices give you like 3 days to get it filed before they fine you for not doing it on time. Hotels file for you so you don't worry about that

thank you, so you have to file the TM30 what ever visa you arrive on ? I’m just staying at my wife’s house so bring the blue book and her ID to file it

@Charlie *******
ALL foreigners no matter the visa type you enter on are supposed to have a TM30 filed (although not all do it :O )

Take her, the house book, the chanote, and her thai i/d to the immigration office where you live and file one. You won't have a problem
