TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on whether they need to report to the local immigration office where their Thai family lives or if any immigration office will suffice for reporting their stay while on a Tourist Visa. Community members provide insights on the TM30 requirement, noting that it may not be necessary unless applying for a visa extension, and recommend going with the householder to ensure compliance.

Brandon as usual gives good advice , this week someone posted the web link for the online application , maybe find that ? Anyhow this I what I do , and did this week , go with householder to local police station , take house book , your passport and ask for tm officer , usually special division as dealing with foreigners ,takes 10 minutes , it’s free but I make sure there happy and it saves me a couple of hours ride into Khon Kaen and back and a day lost and stressful , . I’m well aware that I could skip the tm30 but I want to keep everything legal as in and out all the time , enjoy your trip

Are you going to be applying for a 30 day extension while you are here?

If not then don't worry about TM30. You only "might" need it if you are going to immigration to apply for an extension. Even then many offices do not require TM30 for a simple tourist extension.

If you are going to be applying for an extension, ask whoever you are staying with at the time you plan to go apply for your extension to file a TM30 for you.

Generally you cannot file a TM30 yourself, the property owner or landlord has to do it.

thank you for a straight forward understandable answerđź‘Ť

I will be applying for a 30 day extension so I will get the Thai family to do what is necessary

ask them to get proof either paper receipt from immigration if submitting in person or searching for results after submitting online. Then you can't print and take it to immigration in the event they ask.

is there a time limit when this reporting has to be done or can it be done in person at the immigration office any time during the 1st 60 days before I apply for the extension?

legally, within 24 hours of arrival at a location. Realistically they don't know when you arrived at that address so any time before you go for your extension.

Technically it should be done within 24 hours of arrival at your place of stay. However if you’re doing it online then no one is going to really check if you did it on day 1 or day 20.

I live with my Thai wife 2 x 3 months every year and report tm30 for my wife online every time - do we not have to do that? kind regards Kim

legally you have to, but the only time you ever need to show a TM30 is when you use immigration services. If you don't need to go to immigration then you don't really need TM30. But if you're doing it online it just takes a minute so there's no reason not to so you're staying legal.

thank you Brandon - a quick question if I may? I know it is off topic - sorry - but my Denmark - Thailand group has not responded so I try here : I need proof of residence for another bank account and now that my address is in immi's database can I then go to any immi office or must it be the closest to where I am with my Thai wife?

you can only get it from the office in the province you have your TM30 filed at. And each office will also have their own requirements such as in Bangkok you can only get a residence certificate after you've filed at least one 90-day report and have the receipt from that filing (which means it's impossible for someone on tourist visa).
