TLDR : Answer Summary
If you hold a UK passport, you do not need a visa for a stay of up to 60 days in Thailand, as the country allows visa-free entry for UK nationals. However, it's recommended to verify current entry requirements a few weeks prior to traveling, as rules can change. It's also suggested to stay informed about the potential implementation of an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) that might be required in the future.
no one knows. It's still a proposal. Don't worry about it for now. It will only be a pilot program for the first 6 months if it even happens.

Be aware that there's not many places that you can buy HP sauce!
You do not. 60 days without a visa is now the norm, (for most countries). A 30 day border run is also possible, meaning 90 days without a visa is possible.
A border bounce gets a new Visa Exempt entry stamp of 60 days. 90 days is possible by getting a 30 day extension on the initial 60 day entry stamp.

The first thing you do before planning a trip to any country is visit the (Country) Embassy Website for your country. This is the most basic, fundamental thing you can do.
Should you be traveling if you can't figure that out?
also something to be mindful of for future reference. I recently lost my husband and this will be my first time doing long haul on my own. I am goin to Thailand after an extremely stressful 4 years and staying at a beautiful wellness retreat. To mentally and emotionally recover. This is my first post and thanks to people like yourself I honestly don't think this website is for me as I personally prefer kindness. But hey each to their own. Have a fabulous day x
Ignore the peanut brains trying to give you grief over a legitimate question. They look for people to put down and don't even pay attention to the name of this group.π
As others have said, you will be fine without a visa as you're a UK passport holder. Now, as Ronald Tan mentions above, Thailand looks to be implementing an electronic travel authorization requirement which isn't as intimidating as it sounds, but it is an extra step you need to know about. We don't know the details yet, but you will have to go to a Thai government website and fill out an online form in advance. Will probably not be too time consuming or onerous. The US already has it for her visitiors and the UK will have one, too soon. Just something that comes with the times. But keep an eye out for this so you know by when to go online and submit it.
Thai Embassies come under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and issue Visas. Thai Immigration come under the Ministry of the Interior and manage entries to Thailand, internal Visas and Extensions of Stay. There is very little communication between the two and they often contradict each other when one tries to communicate about something that is the responsibility of the other.
You can also use the magnifying glass (search feature) at the top of any facebook page, or (shock, I know) visit the embassy website for official information.

So I'm coming from UK. So I don't need a visa. Sorry it's my first long haul extended trip and just want to be certain I've done everything I need to x
If you hold a British passport then you donβt need a visa. You will get a 60 day visa exemption at immigration on arrival. There are other requirements but they are rarely checked. 20,000 baht funds, accommodation, ticket out of the country within the exemption period.

If your passport is from a visa exempt country, you will receive a 60 day entry stamp if you arrive without a visa.
they will only ask you at the airport if they already want to deny entry to you and are looking for a reason. It's the airline that usually asks, not immigration.
depends on where you are. At larger offices like Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai and some others you can apply when you have 45 days or less left. At most other offices you can apply when you have 30 days or less left. But at Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Pattaya you can only apply during your final week.
