We are arriving in Thailand from Australia May 6th so unsure if visa exempt is 30 or 45 days ?

We will be leaving again mid June from UK and Europe and will return to our unit in phuket hopefully until mid January.

Can anyone advise if we can travel to either KL or Penang to obtain 60+30 day TR or the best visa option we have ?

Thanks in advance Sharlene

TLDR : Answer Summary
Travelers arriving in Thailand from Australia on May 6th may face a 30-day visa exemption unless changes occur after March 31st, 2023. For longer stays, options such as a ME Tourist Visa, which can cover nearly nine months, are recommended. There are also possibilities of traveling to nearby countries like Kuala Lumpur or Penang for visa options.

You have to work your strategy on 30 Days. Why don't you get a ME Tourist Visa. That'll fix you for almost nine months

Correct. It's a multi-entry, so each time you enter you are stamped in for 60 days, right up to the date of expiry. And each 60 day entry stamp can be extended a further 30 days. My favoured tipple is any Single Malt from Islay, preferably Laphroaig.

I think I am blonde πŸ‘±β€β™€οΈ I didn’t realise you can get an extension during the 6 month period

So we will arrive May 6Th leave June 12th and return August 29th get 60 days then can apply for 30day ? end September which gives me 90 days ?

Just need to make sure I leave and return before 6month visa expires ?

Ok let's do the hypotheticals. You apply for the visa and the six month validity of the visa (the sticker in your passport) is June 1 to December 1. Let's say you enter Thailand on June 6 (the closer you enter to the visa start date the better for you). You are stamped in for 60 days which is August 4. Sometime in July you go to immigration and get a 30 day extension to September 2. On or about September 1 you border bounce, re-entering Thailand on the same day. You are stamped for 60 days until October 30. Some time in October you get a 30-day extension until November 30 (Keep in mind your visa is still valid until December 1). On or about November 29 you border bounce and get stamped back in for another 60 days until January 27. (Your visa has now expired but your entry stamp is still valid).Sometime in January you get a further 30 day extension until February 26. So you have effectively been in Thailand from June 6 until February 26, which is about seven days short of nine months. Your time is then done. If your husband thinks a friggin Samsong will cover this wealth of information and knowledge, tell him he's dreaming 🀣

Provided you make your last entry before the visa expires, you get stamped in for 60 days and can extend a further 30

It has a six month validity, but each time you enter Thailand you get stamped in for 60 days, which can be further extended another 30 days. So two strategic border bounces gives you almost nine months

Ok just we will only be there for just over 1 month before we leave for UK then back Late August which would make 60 days late October then leave again late October and get another 60 days which would bring to late December and then can I get an extra 30 days ?

@Sharlene ******
