TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent reports suggest that it is still possible to obtain a 30-day visa exemption by doing a border run to Ranong, Burma, assuming you have not already used two 30-day visa exemptions by land within the same year. Travelers are advised to consider going independently to avoid complications and should prepare by having a ticket for onward travel and sufficient cash, as there may be requests for an additional fee for the stamp.

Both Ranong points can be difficult. Consider going on your own without a van load of other bouncers. Have a ticket for onward travel and 20k in cash. Even with all of that be prepared for the possibility of being asked to pay 500-1000 for your stamp. Andaman club is typically more amenable than Victoria point.

last reports were it's fine to border bounce there for a 30 day visa exempt entry (as long as you don't have two 30 day visa exempt entries by land this year)..

sorry I left out the "by land" part. I edited my post ;) BUT just so you know even though you take the boat to burma and back you enter thailand by land ;)
