hi. i am looking at the possibility of doing a visa run from kanchanaburi province in to myanmar. (i am uk citizen with 30 day on entry visa) Are there border crossings in this region allowing me to simply cross and then re-enter thailand after 24 hours? i am aware that you cannot re-cross some border crossings in myanmar - please advise. And what would be the logistics?

Alternatively i am thinking about just extending my visa in bangkok and paying the fees for another 30 days. Will the cost of visa run be comparative to this in any case? if so i might as well extend in bangkok as this will be easier.

any advise would be greatly appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post inquires about the feasibility of a visa run from Kanchanaburi, Thailand, to Myanmar, specifically seeking information on border crossings that allow re-entry into Thailand after 24 hours. The author, a UK citizen with a 30-day on-entry visa, is aware of potential restrictions on certain crossings and is considering both the logistics of a border run and the option of extending their visa in Bangkok. The comments provide insights into the Phu Nam Ron border crossing, including costs and the necessity of a multiple entry visa, while sharing recent experiences of others who have successfully completed visa runs.

Glad it worked BUT you didn't get any thing extended. You stamped out of the country canceling your old 30 day visa exempt entry and you stamped in to the country on a brand new 30 day visa exempt entry.

You also used one of the two 30 day visa exempt entries you can get in a calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31)

Remember you can get a 30 day extension on a 30 day visa exempt entry for 1900baht at the immigration office.

We keep us updated about changes at borders, but reports of Immigration rules changes constantly, on daily basis, on the mood of the Immigration Officer and all kinds of statements like that, all these are made up by people.

also, i have also read that you need to have a multiple entry thailand visa in order to do this rather than the standard 30 days visa exemption stamp. are you aware of this? thanks

I have read nothing concrete about any policy change about bouncing or and back in at the Burma borders

hi! many thanks for your response. is this based on your recent experience, or from a while ago - as i have read that the situation at this border changes constantly.

You most definitely CAN bounce out and back in at the Phu Nam Ron border with burma in kanchanaburi.

You CANNOT stay over night in burma. You get a 'day pass'.

All you do is get to the border, pay 950, stamp out of thailand, get driven across no-manz-land, stamp in and out of burma, get driven back and stamp back into thailand for a new 30 day visa exempt entry.

You can either do it yourself or contact the company SWD Transport (

They run to that border from Bangkok.

If you go for the 30 day extension it's 1900baht out at the immigration office in the government complex on Chaengwattana Road.
