I forgot to get a 2 months visa on time, so now wondering: Is there possibilities to do a Visa run to Myanmar? I'll be in the north and it would be great to go somewhere close to there. If yes can you recommend a bus/train/flight/company? Would be great to book a ride or flight out of the country before I land already
Thanks!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster was inquiring about the possibility of doing a visa run to Myanmar after missing the deadline for a two-month visa while in northern Thailand. Several commenters highlighted the current dangers associated with traveling to Myanmar due to civil unrest and recommended alternatives such as crossing into Laos instead. It was noted that most borders with Myanmar are closed to foreigners, and if one must travel, options like flying or crossing into Laos or Vietnam are safer. Advice on transportation options to these borders was also given.
Most western countries have imposed sanctions. Many citizens are prohibited from engaging in ANY type of financial transactions with Myanmar including supporting the military juanta by purchasing a visa or exchanging currency.
I live near Mae Sai, the most northern point in Thailand and the Burma border is closed to foreigners. Only Burmese can cross from Shan state into Thailand and Thais can cross into Tachilek for one day.

travel to Yangon is fine, also Bagan, Mandalay and Inle lake are relatively safe and open for travel.
maker sure u use the black market for ur Kyats š
easy embassy
IF u only want a 30 day visa exempt the Ranong/Kwathoung crossing is open> but thats down south
that makes no sense to someone in northern Thailand.

Mae Sai crossing is closed for tourists, Chiang Khong on Laos border is probably easiest / closest assuming you're in CM or CR. Rent a car and drive to the border, or go by minivan with Chiang Mai Visa Run, or other.
oh no letās blame that on Covid everything else is lol
Thatās what happens in old age beware it can creep up on you it has me by the sound of it 555 Cambodia when we went on a casino visa trip plus a few beers maybe point is it was fun and handy thatās the point
Ehhhm, id avoid Myanmar right now. Are up to date on latest news? The civil war is literally at its likely peak right now. Junta seem to be loosing control
that is actually highly exaggerated, and the military isn't losing. There is no fighting in any of the tourist areas at all. Any demonstrations are immediately suppressed. It sounds bad with all the propaganda, but for a tourist it is actually very safe, and the regular people need the money badly. Fly into Yangon, get a visa at the Thai embassy, and then explore the country. The tourist route is Yangon, Inle Lake, Mandalay, Bagan, then back to Yangon. As a side note, the ShweDagon pagoda in Yangon is the second most revered Buddhist pagoda in the world.

Stay away from Myanmar. Why take the risk of possibly getting in the middle of a conflict. People can tell you it is safe but apparently the rebels are taking over a lot of territory. It may be safe today but what about tomorrow or the next day. Is possible injury or death worth a border run.
you haven't been there either have you? The tourist areas in Myanmar are safe. You simply don't understand that you can not travel everywhere in Myanmar. Travel is restricted, and always has been. You will never be allowed anywhere near any conflict zones. There are more incidences of bombings, and attacks in Southern Thailand than in Myanmar, but that wouldn't fit the propaganda.
the Shan state, and the Karen state, have always been controlled by rebels, and major drug dealers, mostly meth. They have been fighting with the military sporadically for the last 30 years. That is nothing new. That's what I mean about the propaganda.
lol, classic āI am right, everyone is wrong. Because I say soā
Dude even Myint Swe has stated publicly the army is struggling to stay in control of large parts the country. Heaviest fighting is in the northern Shan state, but things are quite unstable right now.
you're in Thailand, and they are in a state of constant fighting in the deep South, but you still come here, or is that different...lolol. Don't believe all the propaganda.
you obviously haven't been there, and only believe the propaganda. The deep South of Thailand has been at war longer than Myanmar, but that wouldn't fit your narrative...lolol. Don't be a hypocrite.
i would'nt call it a war in the deep south, dangerous yes its more Thailand defending their self against the militant rebels from over the boarder.just an opinion.
you should try to better understand the fighting in the deep South. It is about the three Muslim provinces in the deep South wanting autonomy, and independence, and a return of the lands Thailand took centuries ago. It is simply a different version of a civil war, with lots of gorilla fighting tactics used. No matter what you would call it, it is another version of a civil war.
im not a religious person but as you say Muslim provinces aren't most wars or conflicts all around religion.I've only been as far south as Krabi phuket and phi phi isles and every one seen to live in harmony.take away the militants and you would have peace i think.
