Question: if someone is in Thailand as tourist with visa exemption (30 days, from Canada), and they have overstayed by a couple days, do they still qualify for the standard 30 day extension?

Wondering if overstaying voids this possibility, or if you just have to pay a fine when you extend?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If a tourist from Canada overstays their 30-day visa exemption by a few days in Thailand, they can still qualify for a standard 30-day extension. However, they must pay a fine of 500 baht for each day of the overstay. The extension will only be valid starting from the date their original visa stamp expired, meaning the days lost to overstay will be deducted from the new extension period.

pay the 500 baht a day overstay fine and get the 30 day extension dated from the date your original stamp expired (meaning you paid 500 baht a day AND you lost those days off your 30 day extension).
