I'm a South African about to go to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, to apply for my Non-B. Have any South Africans recently been to Ho Chi for their Non-B?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A South African individual is seeking information about applying for a Non-B visa at the Thai Consulate in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. Community members have indicated that South Africans can apply at that consulate, provided they meet specific requirements depending on the purpose of the visa, such as business, work, or teaching. Notes about potential additional documentation, like a police check for teaching, were also mentioned.

They like to hide it on their website, but if you look under: Additional documents required for citizens from some countries in the left menu and you scroll all the way down that page, you read this: For Applicants from Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cape Verde, Chad, Cote D'ivoire, Djibouti, Gambia, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Niger, Rawanda, Senegal, Togo, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Swaziland, Burkina Faso, Eritrea, Gabon, Comoros, Lesotho, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, South Sudan

- If applicant has a residence in the country he is residing, he/she may apply at the Royal Thai Embassy/Royal Thai Consulate where he/she has residence (provided that the residence has been legalized by the residing authority).

Thanks for the info
@Ron ******
. Looks like I won't be going to Vietnam for my Non-B then. Next best option is Loas.

Kyle Addison to try and make it clearer, you don't even have 'Residency' in Thailand. You only have a temporary permission to stay. That is determined by your length of visa entry OR a 12 month extension of stay.

That isn't classed as residency, even for Thailand.

you cannot apply in Vietnam for a Thai visa, unless you have residency in Vietnam.

ooh I see ... The paragraph says "If applicant has residence in the country he is residing" ... I don't have residence in Vietnam obviously, do I then ignore this paragraph?

no. You would need residence in Vietnam to be able to apply in Vietnam.

thanks so much for responding! Yes that paragraph is very confusing ... Looks like I'll need proof of residency in Thailand, therefore I would need:

- Lease agreement of accommodation

- Copy of owners ID

- Copy of hotel registration (blue book)

- Title deed

Sorry, I looked everywhere on their website, and couldn't find anything regarding South Africans when I came up with the police check notice.

Just seeing that they 'May' ask for a police check from your home country if it's for teaching.

Unless I'm looking in the wrong place, I can't see on the website that South Africa is on the list of countries that can't apply at that consulate.

Did you look at the website and see the requirements for the reason you're applying for a Non-B visa? They offer it for conducting business, working and teaching and they all have different requirements
