Warning to all South Africans - Vietnam...

I decided to do a VISA run to HCMC. Flew all the way here, they won't do it for South Africans. For some reason we need to prove that we are living/working in Vietnam to apply for a Thai Visa here. So now I have to hope for the best when I try get back into Thailand.

If you're South African, don't even try it.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post warns South Africans about difficulties in applying for a Thai Visa in Vietnam, specifically stating that they must prove residency or employment in Vietnam. The author shares their unsuccessful attempt and advises against trying to obtain a visa there. Commenters suggest alternative options, such as traveling to Savannakhet, Laos, where South Africans can apply for various types of Thai visas, and remind others to check consul regulations, as many do not allow South Africans to apply for visas.

Sometimes, I want but I do not care what ever rule is in play. If you are South African, be aware that more Thai Consulates in surrounding countries do NOT allow you to apply for a visa. Almost every Thai Consulate have this list attached to their website, use a few minutes of your time to check, or wast your money and time because you want and you decide. Why not send here back solo and you continue on to Laos to get appropriate visa, she does not have to go with you.

Right, so yes down the track go to Savannakhet, do not go to Malaysia as you will be in the same situation you are in now.
