Can my friend wait to transfer his marriage extension visa to his new passport, or does it need to be done immediately?

Hi, a friend had his passport accidently damaged in laundry. He got already an emergency replacement, until the new passport arrives in a few months.

He is on a marriage extension, which is due to be renewed in a few weeks.

Question, can he wait until then to have the visa/extension transferred or has this to be done immediately, meaning  earliestTuesday?

What documents are required, what is the cost?

if as you say he's going to get his extension in a few weeks he should be fine moving the stamps then without a problem.

This is the transfer stamp to new passport form and it lists the documents needed.

In Bangkok moving the stamps is free, it is not that way at all the offices so he will just have to see what his office says when he goes.

sorry one more - what about if the passport is so damaged that he can't supply any of the photocopies asked for?

he still has the damaged and cancelled one, with only the first 2-3 pages being eligible.

he still has it, so take it and see what they say

OR

if he doesn't have it he has a police report (or he couldn't have gotten a new passport issued) so take that
