What should I do if my passport is expiring before my visa extension is processed in Thailand?

Passport expires 6th July 2021. Application made to BKK passport office March 16th . Email from UK passport say another 6 weeks. My year extension married to Thai expires May 16th. I will have about 7 weeks left on the current passport. Will they add the consideration stamp on that or does there have to be a minimum time left on the passport.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing a situation where their passport is expiring soon while they await a renewal and need to apply for an extension of their marriage visa to stay in Thailand. They are concerned about whether their current passport's timeline will affect the extension process. Commenters suggested visiting the immigration office to inquire about a temporary extension while the new passport is being processed, highlighting that any extension granted with the old passport would only be valid until the old passport's expiration, necessitating the start of the extension process anew once the new passport is received.

What I'd do IS:

you and your thai wife slog on out to the immigration office,

tell them you're in the process of getting a new passport

AND

ask them IF you can get a 60 day covid extension (or a 60 day visit family extension) instead of applying for the year marriage extension to buy you time to get the new passport back.

Then once you get it, go get the stamps transferred and apply for the year extension.

yes, already done the family extension so the covid 60 day would be the way to go

That's what I'd try for then
@Br***
..

It'll buy you the time you need to hopefully get the new one back and then apply for the year extension in one go on the new passport :)

worry is there might be travel restrictions soon, I am in Khon Buri near Korat....

You do realize IF your new passport doesn't come back before you need to apply for an extension that they're only going to give you an extension dated until this passport expires right? AND then you have to start the whole process of the year extension over again when that one runs out :/

Yep, was told by UK passport it would be 3 - 4 weeks from application so went 16th March which is 17 weeks from passport expiry or 9 weeks from Extension end clearly that was not correct

I just had a Brit use VFS Global (the people brits go thru to get passports here) and he got his passport back I think 18 days from the date he turned it into the VFS office in the Trendy Building here in Bangkok.

... that would have been pre covid but last year when I renewed my kids UK passports it took about 2½ months as opposed to 2 weeks pre covid when I renewed my own one.
