TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring whether her husband can extend his retirement visa while waiting for a new passport, given that his current passport is full but he has a second passport. Comments indicate that typically visas cannot be transferred between passports, and extensions require sufficient space in the passport. Immigration might allow some flexibility with 'special notes' pages, but it largely depends on the regulations of the husband's embassy.

This is starting to become one of those "me too!" threads. I'm going to close comments. You got good advice. Good luck! If someone wants the post open, send a mod a message.

No 30 day visa available

If his passport is completely full, immigration can't put an extension of stay in his passport

In the United States of America you can also have 2 passports from the USA . This what the USA embassy in Bangkok told me

I had the similar problem recently. Was shocked that they can't transfer visa to the 2nd passport, require only NEW. Luckily I had enough time and half of page free to put on yearly extension stamp while waiting for the new passport.

Immigration told me that they can use "special notes" pages for stamps if your embassy would give the letter that they allow to do so (mine didn't). Try with yours, maybe it can be a solution

That's a good work around
@An***
, IF his embassy will give him the letter asking it be done while he waits for his new passport :)

Thanx for that

You said the passport is full SO whether he applied for the 60 day visit family extension, a 60 day unable to travel extension OR a year extension based on retirement they ALL take up the same (or more) space. So he's done until he gets his passport renewed.

A replacement UK passport took under 2 weeks door to door when I last did it here. Has that now changed?
Mark *******
Just got mine back, four weeks start to finish with an email from hmpo to keep me updated after 3 weeks

I would get it would actually be quicker than normal.

hardly anyone will be getting a passport just now

No I think VFS Global is still getting them back to people pretty fast. I had a friend get his in 10 days from the date he turned it in to them..

Why would someone have 2 passports from the same country? Obviously I am missing something.
Jophiel *********
Because of my work I even have 3 passports, I am German.
Annie ****
Many countries allow 2, we have the same law in Ukraine

people who travel regularly to countries that are under conflict, EG, Israel and any Arab states.

@Spic*****
the UK allows it if for example, you live somewhere which the law says you must have a passport on your person, or you need to travel, and your work requires that for visa applications you need to send a passport away.

You said the immigration office already told him no they wouldn't do it.

I don't know what you want to hear from the group. :/

I have personally never heard of them using a second passport (on the people who have two from the same country) and moving extensions from one to the other

Your husband should have checked with the immigration office long before this

AND

he should have applied for a new passport months ago when he knew his current passport was full and he couldn't get an extension in it.

If it's totally full he can't even apply for a 60 day 'unable to travel' extension (as that takes up actually MORE space than a year extension does).

Sadly this sounds like a problem of your husbands own making, not checking with the immigration office before he went to get his extension AND not renewing the full passport that has his extension in it in time to get the new extension.

Is the passport completely full??

You cannot change passports (from one country to another) when getting yearly extensions inside the country.

its same tod same uk passport

You cannot change passports INSIDE the country unless you are renewing one. Even if it's one from the same country (in the countries that allow people to have two passports)
