Do I need to transfer my retirement visa to my new passport immediately or can I wait until renewal?

Have a retirement visa, collect my new passport today. I read that I need to transfer the visa right away but was told that I should just hang on to both passports and get the visa put in the new passport only when I need to renew it. Is that right?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the process of transferring a retirement visa to a new passport they just received. They mention conflicting advice on whether to transfer the visa immediately or to keep both passports until renewal. Comments highlight the need to clarify if the visa is a sticker obtained abroad or an extension from within Thailand, and suggest bringing required documents to the immigration office when transferring the visa.

this is the transfer stamp form, and it lists the copies you need to provide from the old and new passport.

As lloyd said definitely do it before or when you go file the next 90 day report. Some offices will give you grief for not showing up right away to move the stamps

Just did the same recently. Be sure to take the letter your embassy sent along with the new passport.

most important question is; do you have an actual visa (normally a sticker purchased outside Thailand), or an extension of stay purchased and applied for at immigration inside Thailand ?

You should transfer the extension of stay sooner rather than later, maybe on your next 90 day report ?

looks like the same extinction I have been getting for the last 18 years. It is a retired O. All I have to do is my 90 day residency report between extinctions. Moved from Korat to Pattaya for a few years and had no problem with the visa process after moving to Pattaya and back to Korat again.

looks a LOT like you were on a non-B visa/extension for employment, then changed to a yearly extension based on retirement.

That stamp was done in Chonburi and that's where you should get the stamps transferred.
