Hi,

I am on a retirement visa, however, my British Passport expires in late August 2023.

I have been informed the issuing of a new British passport will take a minimum of eleven (11) weeks.

My problem is how do I transfer my Thai retirement visa on my old passport when I don't have a valid passport whilst waiting for my new passport to be issued?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user on a retirement visa is facing the challenge of transferring their visa from an expiring passport to a new one that will take at least 11 weeks to receive. Responses indicate that without a new passport, the user cannot process any visa extensions or transfers. Suggested actions include waiting for the new passport and applying for a visa extension at the immigration office as soon as possible. Some users share their positive experiences with quicker passport processing times, but caution is advised for planning ahead.

Please take good care of your passport well in advance, especially those who are from countries that require more than a few weeks to issue new/replaced passports. Basically, You have no other way than to go on overstaying until you get a new passport once you apply for a new passport.

We are witnessing posts trying to ask "What can I do if I cannot get my new passport before the stamp is up". Well, what we can say is, accept the fact you have to go on overstaying.

We wish the OP Good Luck ๐Ÿ€ in getting his new passport. It's unfortunate that he didn't get a NEW passport last year when he knew it was expiring. Especially as his current one year extension of stay he got last year was not for a full year.

I applied my new Brit passport at vfs ( trendy building in Sukhumvit soi 13) and it came in three weeks.

I'm confused, you say that your passport runs out Aug 2023, my question is WHEN does your current "retirement stamp" run out? is it before your passport runs out?

It runs out the same date.

RIGHT, so you got your extension last year with a passport valid LESS than a full year, meaning you only got the extension for the time the passport was good.

As ellie said, IF you don't get that new passport back in time and start racking up overstay, it's totally gonna be up to the immigration office IF they'll let you clear the overstay then apply for the year extension right then..

I have seen it done as long as the overstay is under the 40 day threshold ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

That's the number of days you can overstay and be charged 500baht a day.

After 40 days the overstay fine caps and I've NEVER seen them allow an extension even if you pay the 20K baht fine for overstaying.

They tell you to leave and come back to start the whole process over and just pay the overstay at the airport on the way out

Unfortunately, you cannot do anything without a new passport. You cannot apply for a new extension. You can not transfer anything from your old passport to un-existing / or not arrived passport.

All you can do is wait for your new passport, and go to the immigration office immediately to apply for your new extension.

That would be at the Immgiration officer's discretion if they let you apply for a new 1-year extension by paying overstay fine or tell you to leave and do the process all over again.
