Can I skip the 90-day reporting for my DTV visa and just pay the fine?

Curious, are you guys just skipping 90 day report and pay the 2k fee on the flight day?

It seems kinda silly to lose a whole day for 2k when we can work from home and make more then that.

Edit: thx everyone, had no clue thailand does not care about the 90 day report for dtv holders, just another weird thai system that makes no sense, gotcha.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether DTV visa holders can skip the 90-day reporting requirement in Thailand without facing penalties. Many participants report that skipping the report generally incurs no immediate consequence at the airport upon departure or re-entry. However, it is suggested that continuously neglecting the requirement could lead to issues when seeking other immigration services in the future. The community shares various experiences, emphasizing that while agents can handle the report for a fee, doing it personally can be quick and straightforward, with some declaring the process can be completed online or via a drive-through service.

The officers at the border only care If you've overstayed or have any outstanding arrest warrants.

90 days or tm30 is only for immigration offices within the country

Fran Matos . . just a short notice: on a DTV, nobody at the exit counters will bother you about any missing 90-days report when you exit Thailand. And nobody when you re-enter Thailand will bother you about any forgotten 90-days report. You will get stamped out without having to pay any fine, and you will again get stamped in for a new 180 days admitted stay and nobody at the Immigration booth will bother you with any request for a 2000 Baht fine. Ignore (!) the scaremongers

Chiang Mai has a drive-through for that šŸ˜… I have blank TM47s at home and pass immigration quite frequently. And as you can do 90 day reporting a couple of days earlier or later, I just drive through when Iā€˜m in that area. Did it 2 times and has never been more than 5 minutes so far.

Seriously does nobody know you can just do it online? You’ve been able to since before the DTV existed, it even saves your info so it takes literally less than 20 seconds.

for DTV holders, you can’t do 90 report online UNLESS you have extended 180 day stamp internally at immigration office. If that is the case you can file the 90 day report online, but only for the report after you extended your stay.

You will not get fined when you fly out. The problem could come the next time you need Immigration services, and they spot that you didn’t comply with the rules on filing your 90 report.

It’s not much trouble to do the 90 day report. I did it at Chonburi immigration a couple of weeks ago. All done and dusted in 50 mins.

It is a legal requirement for foreigners who are staying in the kingdom of Thailand longer than 90 days. Thai rules, so why should we think about ways around Thai immigration rules for foreigners? Immigration are getting stricter in most aspects of foreigners abiding by Thai rules, so I suggest just fall in line, stay legal, stay out of trouble. Small price to pay for getting to live in such a great country

Guys just do the fuggin 90 report. It's not that hard.

You can get the form online and print the paperwork you need.

I get all the paperwork I need on my computer and merge into one pdf to print at a photocopy place.

You can mail it in if you can't do it online.

Yeah I’ve spoken to several people who don’t fill it out. The only time I hear of it being a problem is the people who skip it but go to immigration eventually instead of leaving the country for a reset.

It’s all ok until it’s not… If you don’t do it in time you may have problems getting cerficate of residence if you need it for some reason( it’s required for almost all purposes) not mentioning getting caught by the police. Plus the western attitude: I have money I can skip whatever is inconvenient for me…

Please note people I am NOT advocating that you DTV holders don't file 90 day reports.

Because the rule is if you're on a visa/extension that requires it, and you're in the country 90 continuous days you're obligated to file a report.

All I am saying is if you don't do it NOTHING HAPPENS at passport control when you stamp out of the country at an exit point. Those officers don't care if you ever filed a 90 day report or not AND nothing happens when you stamp back in to the country coming back either.

Dr Jack on AN was saying he wouldn't do it if he was on a DTV, but my fear is if you do eventually have to deal with immigration will they flag up all the 90-day reports you missed and fine you for each one? Over 5 years that could be 10+ @ 2000 baht

I personally have never ever seen someone fail to do a 90 day report leave the country, come back and get caught out by immigrations the following time they showed up to file a 90 day report

and

I have never ever heard of a confirmed case of that happening either

Honestly, I'd say dial back the paranoia just a notch or three.

I'm just saying there is no penalty when you exit/re-enter the country if you don't do one ;)

You are legally obliged to report every time you spend 90 consecutive days inside Thailand. Nothing to do with immigration when leaving, only the immigration offices inside Thailand deal with 90 day reports.

You can do it by post, or pay an agent, shouldn't be more than 500B for an agent to do it. It really isn't a big deal if you miss it, if you don't need anything from immigration you'll probably never even have to pay the fine as they don't check it at the airport.

I do it personally, because it's the law, and while it is NBD right now, things like this can change and make a problem in the future. May never happen. But I do it just in case.

In Chiang Mai, it's a few minutes at immigration, it doesn't take long at all. Just the form and the passport through the drive-through window, so it's however many other people are there. I've never taken over 10 minutes, and that's waiting in the queue, the actual form gets processed in ~60 seconds and handed back to you.

They won't even ask you anything before flying, so no you don't need need to do anything for the whole year, the problem is only if you are controlled randomly and they catch you and see that you didn't do it. Otherwise all fine, don't do anything for the whole year, fly out and fly back in and it's reset

do you really think it is a good idea to ignore the rules in the place that you live? At some point it is not beyond the realm of possiblity to expect at least at the 5 year renewal point a review of someones activities while here? It seems to me you should consider either doing the filing yourself or perhaps engaging an agent to do it on your behalf.

Apparently not and in-country immigration do not have access to entry information from border control. That is why you have to do your first report in person so the IO can see your entry stamp. I asked when I did my last 90-day.

airport immigration doesn't look at 90 reporting and doesn't fine for it not being done. The only way you get fined is next time you need something from an in-country immigration office, they will notice and fine you then.

The only fines I know people have had for not doing 90 day is when they have had to deal with the immigration office. Not at airport. Some retirees choose not to do the 90 day and pay a fine upon their yearly renewal is one example.

It takes about 90 seconds to do it online and it appears to be an automated process.

You must be making 100s of dollars and hour for it to be worth the hassle skipping it.

if you live far away from the immigration office, you will spend more money getting there than just paying an agent to do it. Even disregarding the time involved. Agents will do it from around 500B, it's not a lot.

I do it in person in Chiang Mai because it's quick and I'm not too far from immigration, if I was in Bangkok or lived out in the province somewhere I would definitely use an agent (or, post it).
