TLDR : Answer Summary
Holders of a DTV visa (Digital Nomad Visa) in Thailand are required to report to immigration every 90 days. This doesn't mean you have to stay in Thailand for the entire 90 days, as you can exit the country before then, which is often referred to as a 'border bounce.' If you choose not to stay the full 90 days, you do not need to report. The 90-day report can be done online within a specific time frame, or it can be mailed in. Failure to comply with this reporting requirement may result in fines or complications during future immigration processes.
90 DAY REPORTING RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Use the trusted Thailand 90 Day Reporting Serviceto get your in-person report done and mailed to you for as low as 375 THB (even if the online system doesn't work for you).
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Join the Thai Visa Advice Facebook Group to ask your questions, and get advice from others.

I have a 180

Day stamp from first arrival…. It is 180 days each stamp. You have one time to renew 180 days at immigration office, so theoretically you can stay nearly a year ..Then you have to leave the country for following stamps over a five year span….better to fly out for a couple of days then back through airport.

If I’m wrong then I will soon find out when I go into immigration office next week to clarify this question, and get fined . But this is what i believe to be true about the DTV visa.

But with the visit to immigration office you have to redo all paperwork. If you still have the funds in bank then it’s not a problem. TM30 . Certificate if doing soft skills. Pass port etc

It seems normal to me that Immigrantoin will check for visa requirements when you extend your stay, just like for all extensions of stay for other visa.

If you don't stay 90 you don't have to report to my understanding.

I think after the first report you can do it online or make sure you do a border jump before your second report 90+90 =180

correct, but be aware that the counter for the second report starts at moment of first report, not necessary at 90 days, so better a bit late than early

You can do the 90-day report by mail in Bangkok. So much easier than going to immigration

1. Your statement is correct. Every DTV tourist has to do the 90-day report. (If you're never in the country for 90 days then, obviously this wouldn't be required).

2. Do not believe any advice telling you that this isn't necessary on a DTV and that it doesn't matter. I know a mom who has lived in Thailand since she was a teen, had a proper visa, but was not allowed to re-enter because her agency failed to file her 90-day report. These things are immigration officer discretion and this officer chose to be harsh beyond reason. The point is, officers can see your 90 day reporting record.

sorry your story is BS. Nobody gets refused entry for a failed 90 day report. Just nonsense.

I've never heard anyone being denied re-entry due to not doing a 90 day report but it's something they could enforce in the future.

I think this is questionable. You really believe an immigration officer has access to the data confirming whether someone's filed their 90 day reports? I am not doubting you; I am asking whether that is factually correct

But for DTV practically never possible, because the first 90 days report of each stay has to be done in person.

The rule is to do 90 day report. Ignore advice that says you can skip this requirement, because it is not asked for upon exit.

If you don’t do it, you are breaking Thai immigration rules, which could be an issue at some point, and you will have to pay a fine.

Why is it so difficult for some people not to adhere to Thai immigration rules and regulations?

Takes 5 mins to drop off the filled in form and wait for the receipt. You don’t even have to queue in Phuket.

The 90-day report is only useful if you plan / need to interact with an immigration office later during your stay in Thailand... Such as visa extension and renewal. If you have not done a 90-day report and you need immigration services later on (at an immigration office) you will be charged a 2,000 baht fine.

But If, for example, you don't plan at all to visit an immigration office during the rest of your stay, but you plan instead to leave the country for any amount of time... Then you do not need a 90-day report and it will not be asked at the airport or border when you leave. You will not be fined 2,000 baht and when you come back into the country later on, your 90-day report "status" will be reset to zero.

Hope that helps

no, but it's true that doing the 90-day report isn't particularly difficult, it's free and just requires a short visit to immigration office. If you don't want to take a chance just go do it...

But not doing it will only result in a fine (no ban) IF and when you require immigration services after your initial 90 days.

If you leave and come back you can start the process again from a new entry. If you already plan to leave the country soon, and if your stay in Thailand is very temporary then you shouldn't worry about it too much it won't cause you a big problem like getting banned or deported... However if you plan to live in Thailand long term without leaving the country and you think you will require immigration services later on then it's important to do the 90-day reports in order to avoid a 2,000 baht fine in the future.

Basically once you've been in the country for more than 90 days and haven't done a 90-day report you cannot access any immigration services at the immigration office without paying the fine.

Also the fines don't stack up, if you miss multiple 90-day reports the fine will still be 2,000 baht whenever you seek services at the immigration office

Anonieme deelnemer 990 90 days counter start again after you left, but you still can get the fine at an immigration office, because there is no sucj thing as a fine reset.

I guess nobody confirmed not doing a 90 day report and leaving Thailand after 90 days and coming back and going to immigration office and not getting fined for their previous non-report. All I read here are assumptions.

the fine applies if you don't have a valid 90-day report at the time of requiring immigration services at an immigration office when you've been in the country for more than 90 days... If you don't do a 90-day report, stay more than 90 days then leave the country, then later on re-enter the country, stay 90 days and do a 90-day report this time... Then when you need immigration services at an immigration office you have a valid 90-day report this time so no fines apply... They will not tell you that some years ago you failed to do a 90-day report before you left, because you never actually used any immigration services at that time. That's what I meant

Anonieme deelnemer 990 That just is not correct, the fine is about missing a 90 day report, and not about not having a valid 90 day report.

If you never stay 90 consecutive days in the country you never need a 90 day report so immigration will not check if you have a valid 90 day report, but will check for missing 90 day reports.

But a missed 90 day report will not always result in a fine, you can just be lucky.

If they search your complete history or not is just op to them, but a fine will not expire

my point is that you will only get fined at an immigration office within the country when seeking immigration services. They will not fine you at the airport or border while exiting the country.

Anonieme deelnemer 990 that you can evade the fine does not change the fact that you break the law when you don't report.

no, it's because you're leaving the country and a 90-day report is not needed for leaving the country... It's needed for immigration services at an immigration office within Thailand, not at the border.

If you do a border bounce every 89 days for the next 5 years you never have to do a 90 day report

The more you know

DTV_Begpacker actually with the DTV, if you did a border bounce every 179 days you'd never have to do a 90-day report and be totally fine... The 90-day report is never asked at the border or airport when leaving, it is solely asked at immigration offices when immigration services are needed while you are still within the country and not leaving.

Anonieme deelnemer 990 You can always choose to ignore the law of course, but 90 day reporting is easy, free and if you don't like to do yourself you also can let do it anybode else on your behalf.

If ignoring laws is your favorite, you don't evrn need to have a visa, just enter on exempt and never leave...

I think we should not promote ignoring the law here, so just respect the TM47 allthough it seems to be useless.

I personally never ignore the law, yes doing a 90-day report is easy and free so I always do it. I was just giving information to the OP because they may have forgotten to do their 90-day report and they should know that they will only be fined at an immigration office when requiring immigration services, not at the airport when leaving the country.

Anonieme deelnemer 990 The OP did not forget to do 90 day report, she is just wondering if it is something she has to do when she gets a DTV visa.

Obviously she plans to emigrate to Thailand very soon, and is not very well informed.

I even wonder if DTV is the correct visa for her.
