Hello everyone!

I got my DTV visa approved in HCM and I’m wondering about the 90 day reporting at the imigration office. I’m planning to do it before the 90 days hit but yesterday I talked to a guy who’s been here for a long time and said he and everyone he knows have never don’t it and there have been zero issues with staying the 180 days and returning again. I’m wondering what your experiences are and is it true that the immigration offices are this relaxed?
Answer summary
The discussion centers around the 90-day reporting requirement for DTV visa holders in Thailand. While some expats report not having any issues by not completing the 90-day report, it is emphasized that fulfilling this requirement is legally mandated. Many contributors suggest that the process is straightforward and not time-consuming, with penalties for non-compliance being significant if faced with immigration checks. Overall, opinions vary from taking the risk of not reporting to recommending a proactive approach to avoid any potential complications.

I just do it online and have done so since 2017. Can’t be bothered going into immigration for it. Between 2020-2022 I didn’t bother doing the 90 day report at all. Nothing happened. No fines issued. Waste of time really. Thats my experience.

Thank You for your helpful report 👍

Congratulations 👏👏👏

PRINT OUT THE EMAIL THAT HAS YOUR DTV VISA.

That's what you should do... print it out.

You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight ✈️ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.

Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.

one thing i learned in my life, never break law no matter how small it is, it will come and haunt you sooner or later.......90 days reporting is very easy you can take hotel for couple of days and get TM30 from them, go to local immig and submit TM47 and be done.....

you can go anywhere , i did in udon, stayed in Hotel got TM30 went to immig submitted TM47 and it took 10min pluse i like Udon (i live in Bangkok) ....maybe treat 90 days reporting as trip to relax to small city......(make sure to confirm with the hotel for TM30 first), but i did it in udon because i had a choice otherwise i would go to BKK immig and do it there, in BKK they will give you ticket and you can check online your queue number and either wait there or come back later when your number is due.....but in anyway i will never suggest you to ignore the law, even if you have to waste 3-4 hours.

But I have to go to the immigration office in Bangkok right? Doesn’t that take like several hours to wait there? But maybe it’s better to do that

Jack DD if you will never leave Bangkok, hire agent to do it for u, you don’t need to appear by ur self they do it, normally takes 1-3 days. Be cautious about the address cuz agents will use random addresses to report.

If you will travel somewhere in Thailand I highly recommend you to do it there, in other cities the process normally takes 15 min. Gl

You do it at the local immigration office where you've registered your address with a tm30.

What your friend says is illegal but on a DTV they probably dont care as immigration dont want to deal with DTV holders and youll never need an in country extension. However if you ever need a residence certificate you are going to have to ho to that office.

The fine is ฿2000 if you 'hand yourself in'.

If stopped by immigration officers police or at airport all unlikely the fine us ฿5000 and possible deportation. Very unlikely of course.

Sounds risky I’ll just report than. Crazy how many the foreigners in my building is ignoring this

Currently there is no corelation between local immigration reports and border control, so no flags are raised if you haven't completed the 90 day report when you leave after180 days. The fine for not completing a 90-day report is 2000 baht. The process only takes a few minutes and is free, so why take the risk?

Anonymous participant 172 in Bangkok perhaps, but if you play your timing right in Hua Hin it shouldn't take that long.

I was just asking because I would leave exactly after 90 days was hit but I might just take an earlier flight to avoid the hassle at the immigration office…I know it can vary from a few hours to almost all day there that’s why I’m not so keen on doing it.

Jack DD if you are inside Thailand for 90 consecutive days, including the day you enter, you are legally obliged to report. Will there be any repercussions? Probably not unless you need to visit an immigration office for something

Thailand immigration make the rules, not the foreigners who live here. It’s a very simple process. Do it.

Up to you. 90 day report is very easy. Just follow the rules

You probably won't have any issues, but why risk it? Missing it once, okay, but continually just not bothering might cause you issues if you need something from immigration in future. You could at least try doing it online... That's worked for some people even on their 1st report.

I applied in HCMC too through workcation and in the same boat. Applied 8th Jan, additional docs requested 14th Jan, status changed to pending approval on 20th Jan and still waiting. Certainly bored in HCMC waiting for the status update. Did you apply workcation or through learning a course?

OP
I went in December it took me 7 working days to get it, they requested some additional things like 6 months bank statements I sent only 3 first time, and they wanted to see pictures of all my pages in my passport, etc. And they also requested me to provide information on how I would provide for myself even though I had more than the 500k, the first time I said zero income so they didn’t accept it until I changed it and explained I had some grants and scholarship for online studies while I would do Muay Thai.

OP
I hope it goes well I felt the key thing was to show that one would have one’s monthly expenses covered by some sort of income. But I know some friends who had to wait 3-4 weeks until they got accepted.
