Can I correct my Thai DTV visa application after selecting the wrong current location?

Hi everyone,

I applied for the 5-year DTV as a Cyprus tax resident (Non Domicile) and company owner, but mistakenly selected UAE as my current location because Cyprus has no embassy and I thought that field only chose the processing embassy.

I submitted all Cyprus-based docs, then got asked to provide UAE documents. I need to know if I can fix the existing application to reflect Cyprus instead, or if I must reapply (and pay again).

Also: I am a Non Domicile (60 days) in Cyprus. I have no residency card—can I use rental agreement + utility bills + tax residency proof? And is a shareholder certificate enough to prove my business status? I'm not employed, my only source of income is through dividends being a shareholder and director of my company.

Did anyone have this situation? What's my best collection of papers to get the visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user accidentally applied for a 5-year Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) for Thailand, indicating UAE as their current location instead of Cyprus due to the lack of a Thai embassy in Cyprus. They want to know if they can amend their application to reflect Cyprus or if they must reapply. Community responses clarify that since the application was submitted to the wrong embassy (UAE instead of Cyprus, which is processed through the embassy in Rome), the user likely needs to cancel this application and reapply, losing the initial fee. Additionally, they are advised on the necessary documentation needed to prove their business status and tax residency in Cyprus.

UAE only allow residents to apply - you either have to be permanent resident in UAE, or you have a long term visa in UAE, or have an Emirate ID if you’re GCC residents.

Action -

I’d suggest you email the embassy and ask if they can cancel your application asap; remember do apologise for your mistake; ask for cancel instead of a cold rejection - which could not look good for your future application.

Good luck!

it does NOT matter if you are a Cyprus tax resident, because what is pertinent to any Thai Embassy/Thai Consulate for any Thai E–Visa application are:

1.) where you are PHYSICALLY located at while you submit a Thai E–Visa application and stay located at while your Thai E–Visa application is being processed until it is issued;

2.) what passport country the Thai E–Visa applicant is holding and submitting for a Thai E–Visa to be issued for

Now, let's say you are PHYSICALLY in Cyprus, then the Thai Embassy in Rome, Italy has jurisdiction for all Thai E–Visa applications for those physically in Cyprus and would submit any Thai E–Visa to the Thai Embassy in Rome, and here are the details for a DTV E–Visa application at the Thai Embassy in Rome:

Also, on the Thai eVisa website, anyone would have to consciously and deliberately have made consideration and needed to have made an affirmative choice of "United Arab Emirates" as there is both a Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi, UAE and a Thai Consulate in Dubai, UAE with the following message in Red colour and Asterisk below the selection for the particular Thai Embassy/Thai Consulate:

"...

Where there is NO Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate – General in your area, please find the one with APPLICABLE JURISDICTION.

To add to the above you won't get a DTV based on workation as you don't work, you would need to sign up for a soft power activity and apply again using the correct location, embassy and activity

So being a shareholder and director of your own company doesn't count as a remote worker? I'm doing mobile apps, I'm a developer myself, it's just that I'm not hired as an employee neither as a freelancer. Would that be a solution to hire myself as a freelance developer at my company?

I've been a director and shareholder of multiple companies simultaneously but unless you have an employment contract with these companies you don't work for them. In my case I had a contract with each company stating how many days a month I was expected to work for them and how much I would be paid. Just being a Director and receiving dividends doesn't mean you are employed

You are supposed to select the country where you are present physically. If you are in a country that does not have a Thai embassy, you then need to identify which embassy has been assigned your country/territory. In your case, I believe Cyprus is assigned to the embassy in Rome, but you would need to confirm that. Since you submitted to the wrong embassy, your application will be canceled and you will lose your application fee. You will then need to re-apply, selecting the right location responsible for Cyprus

It automatically selects Rome for you. Only way you would of ever ended up with UAE is if you answered that your current physical location was in UAE

Did you pay the application fee already? If so, that money is lost. You had to choose the country you're currently located at. I'm sure Cyprus was on the list. For countries with no Thai Embassy, such as Costa Rica, Jamaica, Georgia, etc., after you choose the relevant country the system display the Embassy that would be progressing your application (Chile, Canada and Turkey on the former example).

Thanks for the response. Yeah I think I lost this application fee and need to re-apply again. I do wonder about this Non Domicile status and also being a company owner (shareholder and director only) not an employee of a mobile app developer company. Would that still count?

Don't forget to also verify whether applications for non-residents are accepted. While many countries accept them, many others don't.
