What should I do after my DTV application was rejected by the Thai embassy in Rome?

DTV APPLICATION: (SOON TO BE) REJECTED

I want to share my experience with the embassy in Rome regarding my DTV application.

I hold an Italian passport and applied online for a DTV through the Rome embassy, even though I don't live in Italy. However, I was in Italy in October when I applied.

My company is based in Estonia. I'm the sole owner of my business, so everything is legitimate and all documents are in order.

I submitted my application on October 8th. They quickly asked for proof of my company's existence and ownership, which I provided.

By December 27th (today), so almost three months the initial application, my visa status still says (Processing - Pending Approval).

I wrote emails, no response.

I called a few times and was told they couldn't verify the validity of my business in Estonia, which I found quite ridiculous, they would have let the Consul know.

Today, I called again because they still hadn't given me any updates. This time, they told me my application would be rejected for the same reason: they couldn't verify my company's validity since it's not based in Italy.

They advised me to apply directly through the Thai Embassy in Helsinki, Finland, since Estonia falls under their jurisdiction for verification purposes.

Despite how absurd this situation seems, I want to know if anyone else has experienced something similar.

Does it make sense to apply through Finland even though I'm not physically there?

I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions because I'm quite shocked by this whole process. If anyone has had a similar experience or has any tips, I'd love to hear them.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual shared their experience of applying for a Thai DTV visa through the embassy in Rome while holding an Italian passport but living in Estonia. After almost three months of waiting, they were informed of the application's impending rejection due to issues verifying their business's legitimacy in Estonia. The embassy suggested applying through Finland instead, raising questions about the validity of applying in a country where the applicant is not physically present. Several comments provided advice on alternative application routes, including pursuing a Muay Thai course for a different type of visa.

Something very similar happened to me with the french ambassy: my company is based in Hong Kong and I am a french citizen with mexican residency... After talking with 2 ambassies (France and Mexico). I finally choose the muay thai route and went to Taiwan to apply. Way easier

If you want to apply in Helsinki then go there and apply
Ray *****
@John *********
clearly he doesn't. He followed the rules and applied in the country he was in. They appear to have made it extremely difficult for him

@Ray ****
he asked if he could apply via Finland even though he's not there. But I do agree they made it difficult
Georgijus ************
If you are in Estonia, you can apply in Helsinki. The only thing they accept only Finnish or Estonian bank statements, so if you have Italian bank statements they will deny your application. You can read more about requirements on their website

@Wannikea ********
thanks. You mean to physically go to any SE country and apply from there?
Wannikea *********
@Alessandro *******
you must physically be in a country when you select the embassy location using the online e-visa system. So yes, and prepare to stay up to a few weeks depending on the location/embassy you choose.

Yeah don’t understand people applying under workcation , it seems like tons more hassle
Greg ********
@Charles *********
But under Workaytion it might be easier to prove it is still "Ongoing". With Softpower you might have to prove your course or treatment is still ongoing. The MFA guy basically said this and it is Immigration/Interior who make the rules about entry & extension.
Sean *******
@Greg *******
How does someone on a spouse DTV prove it's still "ongoing" if they enter separately?
Greg ********
@Sean ******
Well if their spouse is in country they have shown it is ongoing? Same as any dependent visa
Sean *******
@Greg *******
What if the spouse isn't in Thailand?
Greg ********
@Sean ******
Who the feck knows. Spouse on B dependent visas enter alone. The DTV visa is exactly the same as all other visas. Immigration & Interior set the rules and apply the laws. There is no change.
Sean *******
@Greg *******
So it looks like people on a spouse DTV won't be asked to prove anything. So I imagine it's the same for the other categories. Especially since Immigration don't know which one you applied under unless stated on the visa.
Greg ********
@Sean ******
They can ask you. Immigration have those rights and always have. Nothing has changed. Immigration can refuse entry if they believe you no longer qualify for the Visa you are holding. This has always been the case and remains. Case in point ED visa. Lost3n to the interview with the MFA guy. He answers this, the MFA website states this.
Sean *******
@Greg *******
Just don't wear shorts, a chang vest and flip flops and stink of beer. Then I'm sure you will be fine bud.
Greg ********
@Sean ******
I am absolutely fine. No need to bother about me. Been here longer than you on long term visa. The fast stream are very polite when coming in on business or first PS: only peasants drink beer on aeroplanes
Charles **********
@Greg *******
only for extension , he clearly stated border bounce there would be no need to proved continued Muay Thai training
Greg ********
@Charles *********
Do you think immigration at a border entry have no right to ask that you to prove you still qualify for the Visa? PS: once again he is MFA. He clearly stated they do not set rules for entry and extensions. He was very clearly covering his backside in that interview about this
Charles **********
@Greg *******
************************************************
. Please go to 16 minute mark for clarification
Charles **********
@Greg *******
he stated it’s a 5 year visa and immigration at border checkpoints have no authority to ask for evidence
Greg ********
@Charles *********
He specifically states that once you arrive at the border it is immigration decides how long you can stay. Listen at 11:30 but better from 10:30. He also clearly states the difference between visa validity and length of stay. You have clearly not listened to this video or misunderstood.
Charles **********
@Greg *******
well it’s not entirely clear he is contradicting himself a bit. He says it at the discretion of the immigration officer to let you in., but he says it’s fine when you arrive in Thailand, you’ll be given 180 days without the need to provide any extra documentation. He NEVER states immigration will ask for finincial proof or Muay Thai evidence for entering at a border, give me the timestamp where is he says that 🙄
Greg ********
@Charles *********
Notice he is clearly covering himself in this. He is a "Diplomat" after all. They are trained in this lol. Where he does mention no showing 500k on a re-entry I think he dodged the bit about other requirements ie show ongoing proof of activities. This is a wait and see situation. Wait till immigration start applying their rules.
Greg ********
@Charles *********
Read that back to yourself. Immigration have no authority to ask if you qualify for entry. You really saying that? As for what he said go to video at 2 mins 50s. He clearly states MFA sets the policy for this visa but the "Rules and Regulations" are owned by interior ministry and Immigration. Are you watching the same video?
Charles **********
@Greg *******
which video are you talking about??, there is an updated video with ‘Tony’ last week I think it is , go to 16:35 mins in that video …..thr MFA guy clearly states you don’t need 500k proof or course evidence when boarding bouncing . Sorry but you are wrong here
Greg ********
@Charles *********
I have just posted exactly timing in that video. Go back and listen. It is immigration who holds the power once the visa issued by MFA.
Greg ********
@Charles *********
Please show where he said Immigration had no authority ask. Exactly what minute and second did he state that?
마리오 ***
Yah, I did mine through the LA consulate and had zero issues with my employment letter even though it was from a company in Singapore.
Robert ***********
@Charles *********
Depends on the embassy. It was real quick and simple with the NY embassy. Copy of business registration, letter that I am company officer and can work remotely, and a personal bank statement showing I had the money in my personal account, passport and pix. Done in 30 days.
Sean *******
Just book a Muay Thai course and apply soft power.

@Sean ******
what’s the process for this Sean, I mean it’s a 5 year visa, do you have to prove/train for the whole time you are here? Or keep paying for training to keep the visa valid?
James ********
@Ged *******
so far... no added TRAINING needed after the initial course signed up for.
Incognia **********
@James *******
But immigration can ask when enter Thailand again and again.Thats why are they supporting us ?
James ********
@Incognia *********
it's all in the translation. For now... no added requirements for the next 180 days if you get it by doing a simple BORDER BOUNCE by land, sea or air.
James ********
@Incognia *********
once the DTV visa is issued...no further requirements for 5 years. Other than a 90 day report if in Thailand 90 days.
Sean *******
@Ged *******
Watch this video it answers everything.
