Can I apply for a Thailand Digital Nomad Visa from a country other than my home country, and what proof of current location do I need?

Good morning! DTV questions:

1) Do you *have* to apply within your home country? For digital nomads, it doesn’t seem to make sense as most don’t live in their home country. 😅

2) What is considered “proof of current location”?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Users discuss the application process for the Thailand Digital Nomad Visa (DTV), addressing whether one must apply within their home country and what constitutes proof of current location. There are confirmations that applications can be made from locations like Laos and Hong Kong, with varying requirements for proof of current location including address verification from bank statements or rental contracts. Additionally, discussions touch on potential issues regarding document translations and specific embassy requirements.

I used my driver's license as proof of residency. Different visa type, different requirement (residency vs location) but I suspect proof of location will be defined differently for each embassy.

I have no idea. Rental Contract? Drivers licence? Or just your passport which indicates that you are a citizen of the country, in which you are applying

Best you can do is to wait a month or so, the DTV is so new that there are very few (none) experiences yet.

You apply for the visa in the country you are currently located in. You can't apply for it inside Thailand

yes: "Full bank statement(s) with applicant’s name showing secure/stable liquid financial asset with ‘latest 6-month’ account activity details, in English or with certified English translation:

Each month with amount of no less than 500,000 THB or equivalent."

thank you for this. I was just going to send in the last 2 months, I'll get a 6 month report instead.

Did you get any other details? What should be on the contract? How long does it take to process the visa?

You can apply in person at the Thai Embassy Vientiane, Laos. The embassy informed me non Laos residents can apply there. Follow the directions on Laos Thai Embassy site, 2 days to be approved except for day of submission. Proof of location if you do an online application, can be your DL, bank statement, govt form, passport page is accepted by some embassies.

I see on the Vientiane Embassy website tge 2 day turnaround, are you sure that includes the DTV Visa and wasn't just a standard for the other visas? Have you been yet, or are you going soon? Thank you.

It is for the DTV, i contacted them for more detail on the application via email. 2 days excluding the submission day. This is also similar to the approval of the DTV in London. I am planning to go Sept.

my Thai gf called to them on Friday, asking about what they require for "documents indicating current location". the Thai staff in embassy (Vientiane) said that it means a copy of your Lao entry stamp on your passport page.

I think they just needed an address. All online forms need an address. Even buying movie tickets for some reasons.

For normal STV proof of current location was basically ID card with your address in your home country and flight departing from your/neighboring country.

They wouldn’t issue you visa if you have Spanish passport but your flight starts from Dubai for example

I'm applying next week in Hong Kong.

I'm from Sweden. Emailed the consulate in HK and they said I can apply there.

Proof of location isn't listed as a requirement in the official documents but is in the e-visa system. I'm going to upload my hotel booking and see what they say. But I also have a rental condo in Sweden with a contract, but it's not in English, so that might be an issue if they want an official translation.

Will update the group once I get my results, most likely after

This is Thailand 😅

Men de har inte listat nånstans att man måste visa bankutdrag vid förlängning av visum. Vi får se hur saker ser ut januari när folk gör sina första förlängningar 👌

I believe it can be applied for in Laos. A bank statement with your home address should be fine.
