TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about applying for a DTV visa while in Thailand on a tourist visa and whether they need to return to their home country to do so. Comments clarified that applications for a DTV visa must be made outside of Thailand, typically at a Thai consulate, and noted the importance of checking processing times on consulate websites.

You need to go to the website of the thai consulate you're thinking of applying at and READ THE PROCESSING TIME

All the consulates have eVisa processing time posted, so pick a consulate, go to their website and read how long that consulate is taking to process eVisas ๐Ÿ™‚

Do I need to physically go to a country of my choice? Can I lodge it online?

if you are truly a remote worker you can continue to work in whatever country you travel to in order to apply for the DTV

you cannot work in Thailand with Thai business or Thai clients while on the DTV visa.

, it's an online application. However, you need to be in that country as you have to upload proof of your being in that country.

for example, if I go to Malaysia today to upload all the documents online, how long does it take for them to give me an outcome? Does it mean I need to wait for an outcome? Or can I leave as soon as Iโ€™ve submitted the documents online ?

@Wenjing ******
you must remain in the country you apply in until the process completes

works like this

go to a nearby country

apply online thru the eVisa system

WAIT in that country until the visa is approved or rejected

You are supposed to wait in the country until you are approved. However, you seem hell bent on bending the rules, so do whatever you want, and hopefully when you flit back to Thailand because you can't wait, they will ask for more details and then deny your visa because they will tell that you have left the country!

You can apply in any country of your choice APART from Thailand.

@Lloyd *******
Not exactly. Some countries require you to be a resident of that country to apply. Not every country allows you to apply as a tourist.

Fair point :-) I suppose my main point was NOT Thailand :-)
