QUESTION ABOUT THE DTV :

Do I strictly have to apply for it at the Thai Embassy of my home country or can I also do that at an Embassy in one of the surrounding countries near to Thailand.

I m asking because I m living in Thailand for 5 years now , until now with a workpermit / visa , working for a Thai company.

Now I want to switch, working for a Foreign company online

You can apply at any Thai embassy that does not restrict visa applications to residents. Most people for DTV are currently going to Laos or Vietnam.

Do know that multiple people have reported being asked upon entry into Thailand "Why didn't you get your visa in your home country?" so be prepared for that.

It has not affected their ability to enter Thailand though.
