Hi everyone,

Some questions about obtaining or transferring to a DTV visa. I recently left my job working in a Thai school to teach exclusively online and wish to obtain a DTV visa as a 'digital nomad'. I am currently staying in Thailand (with a registered address) on a tourist visa. What is the process for applying for a DTV visa; must one exit Thailand first to submit an application from a foreign country, and must the applicant stay in that country during the processing of the visa?

Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated ๐Ÿ™

It's a Singaporean company, teaching students based in China (not Thai children). I have a copy of my contract, signed by the General Manager. Is there any further documentation I need as proof of employment?

You will only be able to teach people who are not living in Thailand.

Yes, you have to apply for this visa via a Thai embassy and need to be physically present in that country when submitting the application (for in-person submission & for e-visa submission). As the previous poster mentioned, the requirements vary by embassy, so best to look at the website of the specific embassy you plan to go through. Most countries close to Thailand only have in-person applications, meaning you have to hand in your passport. The processing time is usually 3-6+ workdays, depending upon the embassy and depending on if they request additional documents.

Are you teaching any people inside Thailand? If so then you can not get this new visa, as that is one of the restrictions. If all of the people you teach remote, and not in Thailand, then you might, as long as the company you work for is legal, and will write you an employment confirmation letter, and that you have the 500,000 baht that is also required in your personal bank account, and, you can only apply for it out of Thailand, at most embassies, and consulates now. Just remember to look at the particular one you plan to go to, as many require an appointment now, and with some the queue can be weeks away.
