Hi all,

I am on an extension of stay (uk passport holder) which expires on the 19th May. (Jomtien imm office)

I need to go to the US for a business trip 28Apr - 8th May.

Is there any issue with applying for the extension of stay and then leaving the country for 2 weeks (i will get a single re-entry permit at the airport for my existing extension of stay).

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around a UK passport holder seeking advice on applying for an extension of stay in Thailand while planning a business trip to the US. The consensus is that he can apply for the extension of stay prior to his trip, ensuring it is done within 30 days of the current expiration. Users advised to obtain the extension before applying for a re-entry permit, which allows for returning to Thailand after the US trip. Proper procedures include obtaining a Thailand Pass and being aware of the different requirements depending on visa type.

Make live easy and cheaper.

Apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay based on marriage with a Thai National. The Officer will stamp your passport with Under consideration for 30 days. When the Officer gives the passport back, you directly apply for the Single Re-Entry Permit and inform the officer that you are outside the country for these 2 weeks. IF the Immigration Office is going to do a house visit, they will plan when you are back. Giving extra information to help out planning will be appriciated.

are house visits and under consideration time applicable to non-o marriage extensions, year after year?

yes I have had visits on my 2 previous extensions. They always call ahead to my wife and organise the visit.

can you get a reentry permit on the under consideration stamp though? - i thought only on the existing extension of stay stamp

you can apply for a re-entry permit on an under consideration stamp BUT it's only good for as long as that stamp is valid for AND you need to get back in before it runs out or you lose that extension application and will have to start all over from zero

yes you can. At least I got it few years back in Bangkok. As others say just tell the immigration officer about your planned busieness trip.

mine was based on retirement, looks like yours is Marriage, may be different, but your local immigration office will let you know.

You will need a Thailand Pass and meet its requirements to reenter Thailand.

have them watch for any changes to the Thailand Pass entry requirements.

If you are given an under consideration stamp you must return on that date to get the full extension inked in. Of course you’ll need a reentry permit. But it will only apply to the extension you are on when applying for it. You seem confused to buy one on your current extension then apply for a new extension and think the permit will be active on your new extension.

Background...it appears he is on one year extension of stay as Married to Thai

"Hi all,

I originally obtained a non-o visa based on marriage visa in Savannakhet (in 2019) - then in May 2020 I applied for an extension of stay based on Marriage (which was issued). I now need to apply for another extension of stay.

I assume i just need to complete the required forms again with the required evidence (400k in bank) - I am assuming that i do not need to apply for a Visa again. Can you confirm if my thoughts are correct?

- I can apply for my extension of stay 1 month prior to my current extension of stay expires.

- I can use the same evidence as prior year (except updated bank book showing 400k in bank or 40k per month salary).

I have already been to immigration to get the latest set of requirements (Jomtien Immigration)

tia for your responses."

If you get an extension of stay before you leave, make sure you get it BEFORE you get a re-entry permit.

Extension of stay based on?

Should be no problem at all, you will apply within 30 days of current expiration.
