Hi. My Thai wife visa runs out on 7th Jan. I need to leave Thailand around 8th Jan for a 3 week trip to the UK. I have a work permit with salary going in each month (Bht50K). When should I submit the application for my Visa extension. How long will it take normally (Samui Immigration). Is there any online way to submit the documents?? I am based in Samui but currently working in the South so getting back for the paperwork is a problem. TIA.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks guidance on when to apply for a visa extension for their Thai wife, as the current visa expires on January 7th and they plan to leave for the UK on January 8th. Key advice includes applying for the extension when 30 days or less remain on the current visa, obtaining a 30-day 'under consideration' stamp, and the necessity of a re-entry permit to avoid visa cancellation during their absence. It was also noted that the application cannot be submitted online and must be done in person at the immigration office.

Remember IF you apply for that new extension before you leave you WILL need to get a new re-entry permit (that will cover the new under consideration stamp) so you can can leave and come back without cancelling what you've got.

AND

You need to let them know you're not gonna be here in case they want to come to your house and do an in home visit (which they sometimes do and sometimes don't do).

Thanks Tod. I was thinking that I should apply soon to try to obtain the new visa before I left for the UK. I will then get a re-entry permit on the new visa. How long does this visa renewal normally take??

@Bob ******
you aren't getting ANY visa, you're getting a year extension based on marriage AND you have to get the 30 day under consideration stamp when you apply for a year extension based on marriage.

SO

Go apply as soon as you can for the new yearly extension, get the 30 day under consideration stamp, get a single re-entry permit and tell them you're going to be out of the country.

You can apply for a new extension when you have 30 days or less left on your current one

When you apply for the marriage extension you will get a 30 day under consideration stamp and then you go back to the immigration office on that date and get the year extension inked in.

Nope, no online way to do it, you show up with the correct documents and your thai wife, apply, get the 30 day under consideration stamp, and then go back on that date to get the year extension.
