Can I leave Thailand for a week and still secure my one-year extension on a non-immigrant O visa?

I'm currently in Thailand on a 90 day non immigrant O visa. It expires 19th of May.

I'm intending to get a 1 year extension afterwards.

I'm considering making a trip to the US from the 15th to 22th of May. Is this possible while keeping my 1 year extension?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is in Thailand on a 90-day non-immigrant O visa set to expire on May 19 and is considering applying for a one-year extension. They asked whether a trip to the US from May 15 to 22 would affect this process. Commenters clarified that the extension must be secured before the visa's expiration, ideally 30-45 days prior. Additionally, they advised acquiring a re-entry permit if traveling outside of Thailand.

Hopefully you have had 800k baht parked up in your Thai bank at least 2 months before the date you apply for your 1 year extension.

You can't wait until as after May 19th. You MUST get the one year extension before May 19th.

Did you come in on the 90 day or get it here?

This part of your post doesn't make sense to me ๐Ÿ™ How would you get an extension AFTER?

You can apply for a year extension at most offices when you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp and at some offices when you have 45 days left on your current stamp. You don't lose any time applying early they add the year on to your current expiration date

Obviously you'd have to get the year extension (and buy a re-entry permit) BEFORE you leave to go to the US

BUT

No issue at all getting your yearly extension and buying a re-entry permit then leaving the country

thanks. I meant I want the 1 year extension to start afterward. But I didn't know if it is possible to have the US trip in between.

as I said extension are added on to the date of your current stamp expiration,

SO

if you're on an entry stamp from a Non-O visa that expires on the 19th of May & you meet the proof of funds etc, now, you can apply for the year extension any time after the 19th of this month.

The extension is 1900baht and once you get that you tell them you want a re-entry permit and that's 1000baht for a single re-entry (where you can exit/re-enter once) or 3800baht for a multiple re-entry (where you can exit/re-enter all you want the coming year your extension is valid for)
