I’ve got no possibility of applying for the DTV from my home country (the Netherlands) since I am already in Malaysia. Has anyone experienced trouble applying for the visa in another country other than their own?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing difficulties applying for a Thai DTV visa from Malaysia as they are originally from the Netherlands. Other users suggest that applying from a different country is generally acceptable, and they recommend checking the specific requirements of the Thai consulate in Malaysia. They note that the Malaysian consulate may have stricter document requirements compared to those in other countries.

Read through the posts and replies to get an idea of which consulate would work best for you. Not being a national of the country you apply from is not an issue whatsoever for 99% of applicants.

Many people apply via the consulates in Malaysia, but the word is that those consulates are very difficult, asking for many more documents than usually required.

that’s the feeling I’m getting as well . Are you hearing of better places in Southeast Asia to apply?

I was successful with Cambodia

People seem to say Taipei and Jakarta are the best two options. However, many people seem to be successful with Laos and Vietnam (asking for slightly more so documents) and Cambodia. It seems like Malaysia is seen as the worst option.

Have you ever contact Thai embassy there in KL? If yes, what they told you? If not, please at least visit and ask.

How would I ask? They don’t take phone calls and if you go, you already need an appointment. They don’t respond to emails… also, the KL embassy is 5 hours away…

I am following the comments in this group for a while as I will also apply for DTV next year... and KL is reported to be the most difficult to apply from while Vientiane has been the easiest...

It's the easiest and friendliest consulate to apply through according to people's experiences... Moreover, almost all Thai Visa agents go through Vientiane to help you get this Visa in case you don't meet the requirements... (Personally I love Laos, it feels like Thailand twenty years ago...)

I also love Laos! One of my favorite countries on earth.

I’m actually wondering if it’s easier to get the soft power visa vs freelancer now
