Hi all :)

Has anyone experienced applying for the DTV when not in their home country? We are from the UK but currently visiting Turkey for a month, then heading to Malaysia then heading to Thailand for December (travelling family). I was thinking of applying for DTV but read I need to be in my home country (I will be applying online). Just wanted to ask if this was really a thing or whether it doesnt matter?

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about applying for a Thai DTV visa (digital nomad visa) while currently abroad, specifically from Turkey, as they are traveling from the UK. They were unsure if the requirement to apply from their home country was strict. Several commenters responded, clarifying that it is indeed possible to apply for the DTV while not in one's home country, as long as you apply at an embassy or consulate that allows it. However, it is important to be truthful in the application and provide proof of your current residency status. Some users recommended applying from Turkey while warning against applying from Malaysia, citing potential difficulties.

You may not be applying online as you have to apply using the method needed to apply in the country you are applying from. If possible apply in Turkey if possible as Malaysia is not considered a good place to apply fot Thai Visas .

Hi Jennifer, I am from the UK and flew home to apply for my DTV. I was asked to PROVE my flights from UK - Thailand. If you lie in your application you run the risk of 'providing false information', which in my opinion, is not worth it if you are as in love with Thailand as I am. My visa was done in around 10 days and is valid for 5 years. You could get all your docs ready and apply outside of the UK as long as you tick all the requirements. I also flew to Malaysia to apply but had to get so many company tax documents, proof of residency in Malaysia etc that it wasn't worth it. It would have taken me weeks to do my books and supply the right docs that I made the decision to fly home.

A DTV is valid for 5 years.

You don’t have to be in your home country to apply for a DTV. You need to use an embassy or consulate that will let you apply. For the UK that’s a very good majority of them, but you need to be in the country you are applying from. Even if the consulate uses the evisa system you need to be in the country to apply.

Yes in theory they wouldn’t know that you aren’t but they’ll ask for proof that you are, like current address and such.

Turkey as yet doesn’t use the e-visa system. Malaysia is switching over to it as of October 8th.
