TLDR : Answer Summary
The new DTV visa can be applied for at any Thai embassy outside of Thailand, including the one in your home country. This has been confirmed by individuals who've successfully inquired with embassies, indicating that the opportunity exists to apply based on your nationality.

I just emailed them and asked, didn't mention that I was swedish before they said I could apply.

You can go to the e-visa site and pick your nationality and location and it will tell you if you can do it there πŸ‘Œ

That's a question for the Thai embassy that you want to use. This visa is too new for you to have reports from others.

these options aren't available. Closest to Thailand is china/Korea.

Hong Kong allows applications there too. It's closer than Korea.

so, it’s possible to fly there and do it from either or? Good to know, are you in Thailand now? I’m on an ED visa at the moment and wondering if I should wait it out and then fly outside to sort the DTV. Hard to know what to do atm

- I emailed the Cambodian embassy earlier this week but have not heard back from them. One thing that they have changed though is that starting on the 15th (same day as the DTV came out), visa processing time increased to 6 working days. I assume they did this, as they knew they would get a influx of individuals in Thailand coming to Phnom Penh to apply.

What do you mean by these options are not available?

during the application process you need to select your closest consulate.

- Yes, countries around Thailand do not participate in the e-Visa system. You have to physically go to the embassy and apply in person.
