TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus is that having a Thai stepmother does not qualify someone for a longer-term visa in Thailand. The responses consistently indicate that only direct blood relations might help with visa applications, and even then, there are strict requirements. Various alternatives such as education or business visas are discussed amidst changing immigration policies.

Unless your stepmom knows a high ranking official in immigration then anything is possible…if not that really does nothing for you as far as getting a longer visa…

Glad to see they are weeding out the scam under table Ed Visas
they're currently not available as of 1 October. Same with volunteer visa. Check with your agent/immigration centre. All staff and procedures have been replaced as of 1 October. I am on a covid extension for this reason. Been on volunteer visa for 1.5yrs. No one can offer these 2 visas at all anymore. Nationwide. Of someone says they can, it's a scam. I've tried nation-wide. Only covid extensions available right now. Possibly work visas and business visas too. That I'm not so sure about.
great advice thank you. But I don't want to have to relocate. Let's see what happens on the 15th. Hopefully my local Thai language school can help me 🤞

Where are they based? I would love to try them if they can help me legit. Will contact them
yes the visa on arrival program was restarted for the 18 countries that participate in it. You get a 15 day visa on arrival at the airport when you land and they charge you 2000baht for it.
You also have to meet all the entry requirements in place at this time too
