Hi there

I am working in Thailand as a teacher. One of my co-workers has mentioned that she will be getting a visa for her mum off of her visa. I would like to know if would be possible for me to get a visa for my mum?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster (OP) is exploring the possibility of obtaining a visa for their mother based on their employment as a teacher in Thailand. Several comments clarify that it is possible to apply for a Non-O visa for immediate family members like parents, given that the OP holds a Non-B visa. However, there are caveats regarding job security, as the family's visa status may be dependent on the OP's employment. Community respondents share details on required documentation from employers and emphasize that such requests are common and should not be met with resistance from employers.

Just be aware that if you are on an extension of stay based on employment and your mum piggy backs it, then if you lose your job, she also loses her permission to stay.

Yes its possible, if you are on non B so your immediate family member (mother, in ur case) can get type Non O visa, even u can get yearly extension for her. No special financial requirements, would need some paper work from your employer.

They certainly could get the documentation from their employer to allow their parents to get a 90 day single entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on being the immediate family member of someone who legally works here and then get a yearly extension that matches the one their child has with the company they work for

And what kind of Visa has your co worker and what kind of Visa does she think to get of her Visa to support her mum?

In all the jobs I've ever had, when I need my employer to do something for me, the last consideration on my mind is whether or not they will dislike the amount of work that that request will generate. Also, employers that value their employees are usually quite happy to help them.

Joseph Michael Pedro III any employer that would cause their employee grief for them asking for the documentation to allow them to get their mother a Non-O visa and extension off their Non-B is a BAD employer >:(

It's not an unusual request and thousands of people on Non-B visa/extensions have their families here on visa/extensions like that.

The Non Immigrant O visa is for to follow your spouse/parent or as guardian of your children under 20 years of age. I don't think she and you can invite your mothers on this visa.

Hi Robert. She has the same as me which is a Non B. I am assuming it's a dependent visa. I am not 100% sure which is why I am asking the group.
