Thanks for adding me..

I have a visa related question and I would really appreciate your help.

My partner and I have been living together as a family since 2010.. myself her and her youngest son.. I have mainly been on 'B' visas and tourist visas.. during this time.. I am currently on a 30 permission to say which I have extended for another 30 days.

My question is this. If my name was on her sons birth certificate as being his father, would immigration extend my permission to stay by another 60 days?? I am told they would but I'm not sure whether that is only if I am on a visa ..

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about extending their stay in Thailand due to their name being on their partner's son's birth certificate. Community members confirm that having your name on the birth certificate could allow for a 60-day extension, but clarify that if you are not the biological father, you may face legal challenges regarding parental rights. A 90-day single entry NON-O visa is also mentioned as a possible option for a longer stay.

@Pa**
, okay, now you're opening another kettle of fish.

You couldn't get ANY extension of stay if you're not the real father.

Just the fact you take care of the child doesn't count.

You'd have to go thru the family court to adopt the child legally with the permission of the real father.

In light of the fact that the biological father had passed. From front to back, including marriage etc. Around 6 month. With no pushing or rushing the process.

@Nicholas ********
can you remember the cost and time it took ??

Tod they advised me on the adoption process, gave me the details of a legal representative and the implications etc. When it was complete and everything signed then visa issued. As stated chaps and ladies Buriram Immigration are at the vanguard of this government function.

@Tod ********
is right, it has to go through a family court. There is a family law specialist who will answer basic questions before you commit.

@Nich****
, what did they advise you about?
Nicholas *******
They advised me every step of the way and no heavy handed payments. The team at Buriram immigration is a breath of fresh air.

@Pa**
, can't be done at the amphur, it'd go thru family court 100% because it'd be an adoption.

So you know whether the real father needs to sign any papers or not.. to get this done at the local umper ( not in court)

So a 90 day single entry 'o' visa .. would that then allow me to stay 60 + 30 days .. on a U.K. Passport??

Oh ok great.. any idea of the cost of that visa Tod ??
Tod *********
nope, a Non-O single entry would give you 90 days when you stamp in and then you could extend that by the 60 day visit family extension with jsut your name on the birth certificate for 1900baht at the immigration office.

Oh that's interesting.. thanks Tod

A 60 day extension based on visiting family could be gotten if you had your name on the birth certificate. And you could get a 90 day single entry Non-O visa from the thai consulates in Vientiane or Savannakhet with the same documentation.

However you could NOT get a yearly extension of stay to take care of a half-thai child just with your name on the birth certificate. That is when you'd need to do what
@Pa**
, suggested and go thru family court to get recognized as the legal father and granted parental rights. That's because ALL parental rights with children born out of wedlock are granted to the mother.
