Hey all, I hold Thai citizenship, does this open right to any kind of relative/dependant visa to my family members (parent or spouse or child)?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the rights related to visa applications for family members of a person holding Thai citizenship. Comments explain that a Thai citizen's family, including parents, spouses, and children, may be eligible for certain visa extensions: parents can apply for a yearly extension if over 50 or a 60-day family visit extension if not; spouses can obtain a yearly extension based on marriage; and children will automatically be Thai by birth if the father is Thai.

okay so you're thai by the fact you have a parent that is thai meaning you were a thai by birth not naturalized as a 100% foreigner that got thai citizenship

.

Your father could apply for a yearly extension of stay IF he's over 50 for two different reasons.

One would be based on the fact that he'd need his child (you) to take care of him and the other one would be based on the fact that he's over 50 which would be called a retirement extension.

If he's not 50 yet all he could get would be the 60 day visit family extension and would need to enter the country on a tourist visa or visa exempt entry.

Your as yet unborn child would be thai by birth too because you (the father) is thai.,. They don't make a distinction as far as what percent of thai you are, if one of your parents is thai you're thai too.

OK so basically the only advantage of having a Thai child is that 60 days extension. What is the process? When I did not yet have Thai citizenship I had some extra documents that I had to present at the immigration about my mother so I could directly get a 6 month stamp (or was it a year, can't remember precisely). So I reckon from what you say that there is no 'easier stamp on arrival' for direct family members (except what I mentioned for myself)?

nope it's not different in the least. It's exactly the same thing. Other than he can pull those 60 day visit family extensions based on you being thai, the yearly extension for retirement requires the same financials as everyone else

Thanks Tod. He is over 60. But is the retirement extension visa any different than what a "normal" foreigner would get, I mean without having a Thai kid?

By that do you mean you're a born, bred, rice-fed thai or you are a naturalized thai (a foreigner that got thai citizenship?

Your family members could possibly qualify for the "visit family" extension of 60 days, your spouse could definitely qualify for a yearly extension based on marriage to a thai national.

Hi Tod thanks for your reply. My mother is Thai, my dad foreigner. I got naturalized from that. I'm dual citizen. I'm basically wondering as to rights of my dad for a extended visa based on that. Also for my girlfriend (foreigner also) and our future child. What's the denomination for the visa you mention?
