TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the implications of having a visa extension in Thailand due to having a Thai mother. It clarifies that the individual holds an Extension of Stay, allowing them to stay in Thailand for a year without a specific visa type, but they must adhere to the rules governing foreign nationals regarding employment. The conversation emphasizes that a work permit is necessary for employment, which can be obtained while on the existing extension. Furthermore, to obtain a Thai ID card and officially confirm Thai nationality, the individual must go through the proper channels, starting with a Thai consulate.
once you find out from the Ministry of Labor IF you can work on your current extension, message me and I'll open the thread so you can post what you found.
I think we're done here, thanx all (y)

And as interesting as that topic was unfortunately it wasn't super thai visa related OTHER than the fact that we now know IF a thai national (even one who has not been recognized as a thai yet) enters the country on a passport from a different country on ANY type of entry stamp they can get a year extension based on them being thai or their parents being thai. BUT in the eyes of the thai government they are the nationality of the country they entered thailand on and subject to those rules as far as employment etc.

you were brought here on the pretense of a vacation so have a vacation ;)
The person that brought you here doesn't need to take you back to the US, just fly back home when ever you want to.
At least you don't have to worry about any visas or extensions seeing as you're allowed to be here until the 15th of August 2019 if you want to stay.
I'd say you pretty much know exactly the steps it will take for you to get your thai nationality recognized and that all takes place in the USA <- because that's where you were born. :)
Sincerely good luck (y)

I'm just stressed because I was brought here on the pretense of a vacation. Then the person who brought me says they can't bring me back. A family member. Now I find out I can't work so things are crazy. I don't know what to do.
, It shows theres a labor dept in Nathon in between the Police Station and the Tesco. That'd be where I'd start. You need to verify IF you can hold a work permit on the extension you have. IF you can, find a job, get a work permit and start working.
IF you can't, find a job, get the documentation, go out of the country, get a 90 day Non-B visa from a thai consulate nearby, come back get your work permit and work.
It's far from stressful. It's just the way things work here

Is there on in koh samui?
Tod *********
At least there's no gun to your head to find a job, get a new visa, etc because you're stamped in for a year now. Don't stress out, take your time, go check with the Ministry of Labour. They'll tell you and then once you find a job you'll know what to do
Tod *********
Unless I'm totally mistaken you can hold a work permit from the Ministry of Labour on the extension you have now.
I would say IF you wanna really know go out to the Ministry of Labour in your city, show them your passport with the extension in it and ask if you can get a work permit on it.
That would let you know right off the bat whether you could get one on this extension OR whether you will be just like every other american here who has to go get a 90 day Non-B visa from a thai consulate to work here
, nope, although after you find a job IF you wanted to go out of the country and get a 90 day non-b visa like foreigners do you certainly could, then come in and get your work permit issued then 90 days later get your yearly extension of stay based on employment like all people that work here (who aren't on extensions because their parent was thai) do

I dont need a type b visa?
Tod *********
of course you can work, you just need to FIND a job and get a work permit like a foreigner would. You don't need a new visa, you don't need a new extension you can legally hold a work permit on the extension you have. You just are looked at as an american because you came here on a US passport. That's all, it's far from stressful

This is stressful.
Tod *********
you need a THAI passport to get listed in a thai house book and then you can get a thai i/d card after that. BUT it hasta start at the thai consulate in the USA because you were born there. Right now in the eyes of the powerz-that-b you're here as an American and have a yearly extension based on being the child of a thai national. That means you fall under the rules governing foreigners here as far as work permits, etc.

As a rule I have seen thaiz born abroad (which you are), have to take the birth certificate (the one from the US) along with your mom and her thai i/d and if she has it a house book listing from thailand to a thai consulate in the US, and then they will verify it then they will let you get a thai passport.
I think it can also be done without the parent present at the consulate BUT because you were born in the US you have to start the process and get the thai passport issued from there.
Then you fly in ON your thai passport, get listed in a thai house book THEN apply for a thai i/d card.
Tod *********
I'd say unless you're fixing on slogging back to the US to push this thru, because you were not born here you need to start the process in the US and deal with a thai consulate there to get your thai passport.
In fact I'm about 90% sure that's how it has to be done because I just called someone who mostly fools with thais getting their nationality recognized and that's the information I got from him

No she's in America. I had to get her Thai id and information to get my visa. Validating her Thai citizenship.
, I will caution you DO NOT believe personal messages from people on here unless they are from an admin or moderator. We have almost 25K members and we have no idea if they know shit from Shinola about the procees. BE suspect of them okay?

Do I need to apply for Thai citizenship First??
Nina *********
Took me about a month
Nina *********
For Thai citizen ship, I used my parents Thai id or passport. You only need one parent to be Thai but both of mine are. You also need your birth certificate with your name in it. Since I did it in America and I was born there, Ididn't need to verify it. You may need to do that of you apply in Thailand

How long was the process and what papers did you use?
Nina *********
I wrote it in simple form bc everything depends on where you apply
Thai citizenship was in the form of a Thai birth certificate
Nina *********
I can help you with this. But only with advice from America since its what I did.
I contacted Thai embassy in los Angeles.
Got Thai citizenship
Got Thai passport
In Thailand,
Got my name registered in blue book of moms house
Apply for Thai id

How can I start the process of getting my Thai Id?
Tod *********
okay, as of now you're here as an AMERICAN citizen (that being a US passport).
Even though your mother is thai and there for you are also thai by birth until you "reclaim" your thai nationality (get a thai passport, exit the country on your US one and re-enter on your thai one) you and any work you do falls under the law governing foreigners.
YES, you can legally hold a work permit on that extension as an american who has a thai mother, BUT it would behoove you to just get your thai nationality officially recognized. Believe me you're thai already because no matter where you're born IF one of your parents are thai you are automatically but you're just not "officially" thai <- meaning you don't have a thai passport or thai i/d card.
You have a yearly extension of stay based on the fact your mother is thai (and therefor you are too).
You came in on a 30 day visa exempt entry as an American and as the child of thai national who holds a US passport you got a year extension of stay at the immigration office for 1900baht.

No, it is called as the text in the second line of the stamp: Extension of Stay.

This is good to know i have a german friend who is half thai trying to decide on what visa to get to stay long term .
Thaiz who enter the country on another passport can get a yearly extension of ANY entry stamp they came in on
Tod *********
It is a yearly extension given to people who are thai but haven't entered on their thai passport OR haven't officially gotten their thai nationality recognized.
here's one from a thai citizen who entered the country on their US passport. It says เดิมคนไทย <- is/was thai ;)

Can I get a Thai ID card with this??

No, you need your birth certificate, your mothers id and blue book as far as I know, your local Amphur can tell you the correct requirements.

It is not a Visa, but an Extension of Stay. If you want to work you need or a Thai Id card and be registered in a blue housebook or if you use this passport you need a Work Permit.
