TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on how to navigate the Thai visa system as an engaged individual looking to remain in Thailand and also how to facilitate their Thai partner obtaining a visa to the U.S. for a wedding. Responses include suggestions on securing a marriage visa as the most viable option, highlighting necessary financial requirements and paperwork. It is noted that there are challenges in obtaining a U.S. tourist visa for the Thai partner, emphasizing the need to demonstrate ties to Thailand and providing supportive documentation for the visa application.

If you're wife is super wealthy a visa to the US should not be a problem. Otherwise, forgot it.

You're in an interesting situation actually.. If you're sure you want to marry your GF, you may want to consider marrying her in the US. I *think* a fiance visa is easier than a wife visa. I *think* with the fiancee visa the US government looks at your financials and such, with the wife visa, they look at hers, which is a little trickier because US government officials are not familiar with Thailand's customs and such.

Many people in this group discourage it, but I have had good luck with it... You can apply for a marriage eVisa online, from Washington DC (or whichever embassy serves your home state). Once the visa is granted you will need to do a border bounce to activate it. For proof of nationality use your passport, for proof of residence use your driver's license. I have done this a few times, a few for marriage visa and a few for tourist visa.

All that being said. I asked an agent once, how much was a retirement visa and how much for a marriage visa... 15,000 retirement, 65,000 for marriage visa. I have known a few husbands who could get a marriage visa but the choose different visa options... The marriage visa can be a pain in the ass depending on the immigration department that serves your area.

As many have said, the odds are unfortunately not good for a Thai person to get a tourist visa to go to the US. It actually becomes less likely when the consular officers find out that the person has ties to a US citizen or has family living in the US (but it’s definitely not a good idea to lie to them about it either). The consular officers are required to assume that everyone is intending to emigrate/stay in the US. It is up to the visa applicant to convince them otherwise in what is usually a 10-minute interview. In the case of your partner, she will need to show as many ties to Thailand as possible and they may also ask her about you and how strong your intentions to reside in Thailand are (as you are a couple). The application is easy to do and in my experience, there wasn’t any advantage to using an agent. She will have to do the interview in Bangkok or Chiang Mai. Check the US Consulates’ online appointment calendar as you may have to wait a couple of months for the next opening. Hope it all works out for you.

Visa for your wife to Stay in Thailand or USA

Is easy, all depends the amount of money and property you have.

Say 10 to 20 million Usd, will do the trick.

Here's a thought: go back home, get a visa to invite her to the U.S., and then tie the knot in Las Vegas!

but what happens if she doesn't get a visa granted then I wasted my time going back to the US. And I don't want to spend that time away from her. That's why I am staying here to be with her

@Jay *********
I’m an American and was in your situation a few years ago. I made 6 trips here before staying. You need income and/or work you can do from anywhere. For me, that involved continued education and changing careers. You can do it if you think and plan carefully.

If you have to go back, use it as an opportunity to get things in order. A good Thai woman will wait for you.

Feel free to message me if you need to chat and good luck.

Contact TSL & Associates in Bangkok (they have satellite offices as well). They handled everything no questions asked. Compared to the prices in the US their services were cheap & everything went smoothly.

Get a visa agent. That helps a lot
Robert *****
If she does get it be sure and return on time. Next one after that will work smoothly.

Check out Visa Journey. I went through what you are describing. I found it very helpful.

Lots of mis-info here. Call US Visa Experts in BKK for a free consult. They do many CR-1 Spousal visas to the USA for the past 18 years. Talk to Ning, the office manager.
*********************
If you get married in Thailand and have a long term visa (Spousal visa) your wife can apply for the B-2 tourist visa to attend the wedding. It is a difficult visa to achieve, but a good application and supportive evidence will increase your odds of success.

@Jim *******
not quick tho? And is there a requirement as to how long you’ve been married to be eligible or likely to receive it?
Jim ********
@Ellen ************
There is no requirement regarding length of marriage. However it will depend on your profile and convincing the Consular that you will be returning and not using the visa to circumvent the system. The fee includes a coaching for the interview. Call Ning for full details.

It sounds like you are in a long term relationship with this Thai lady and even have an adult child together (who lives in the US). Saying that there is really only 2 long term visas . Either you marry her or get a retirement visa

if u are over 50 you can get the 12 month extension of stay with 800k in the bank. The DTV is a possibility for you.
Ellen *************
@Graham ******
how many times can a person use it? Is it country specific? Surely it’s not available to all countries?
Tore *********
@Ellen ************
the retirement visa based in 800k can be used as long as you fulfill the requirements.
Ellen *************
@Tore ********
interesting. Someone mentioned to me something they do that costs half that yearly… 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t remember what visa it was but they pay an agent and get it fixed every year.

Have to be grateful they offer any option 👍🏼
Graham ******
@Ellen ************
The 800k is not a cost as that money stays in your Thai bank account. The cost of an in country Visa is 2000B and a Visa Extension of Stay costs 1900B
Ellen *************
@Graham *****
wow. Five or six years ago when I looked into it it was 12K USD in the bank. Now it’s double.
Tore *********
@Ellen ************
half that sounds like marriage visa.

@Tore ********
interesting but I don’t think that’s what he was referring to but clearly I have a very bad memory 😂 and a marriage visa would never apply to me 🤣 thanks for the info! Very kind.

Visa free 60 day extended at immigration 30 days then border bounce for another 60 then 30 or go to an agent for visa advice
Brandon ************
You can't get ANYTHING based on being engaged to a Thai person. The only visa available is if you are married to a Thai person, and it requires a lot of paperwork and 400,000 baht in your Thai bank account.

Also there is no "easy" visa to get a Thai to the US, especially if they are engaged or married to an American. It will be assumed you are trying to get them there to stay permanently by bypassing the fiance/marriage visa. Unless you can show that she owners property, has a long-term well-paying job, and many other responsibilities that tie her to Thailand and will require her to return, you basically have 0% chance. The fact that her daughter is already in the US will make it even more difficult as that will be looked at as another reason she would want to go to the US to live.

And unfortunately, it's same thing for Canada...

being married, or not, makes no difference in trying to get her a visa that will allow her to visit the US. The whole process takes about a year, or longer, to get approved, and it is no guarantee she will be approved.

that's my daughter in the US and we will be married before then. And I'm trying to stay here in Thailand with her. But I want her to take a trip to the US for my daughters wedding when I walk her down the aisle

@Jay *********
In the situation you are describing, your best bet is to show your connections and intentions to return/live in Thailand. There is an “assumption” that the wife follows the husband!
Brandon ************
@Jay *********
Very very low odds. If they see she is married to an American, they will not give her a tourist visa. They will tell you to use the marriage visa which can take 6-12 months.
