Can a retired parent be a sponsor for an adult child? I am 42 and my dad would be willing to sponsor me and my teen son for this. I work online but also we would be happy to try via soft power for Muay Thai

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, a retired parent can sponsor an adult child for a visa in Thailand, provided they meet the financial requirements, such as having a minimum balance of 500,000 Thai Baht. Although some embassies may prefer employer sponsorship, your father can support your application financially, especially since you work online. If you're considering activities related to Muay Thai, you should also clarify which visa type is necessary, especially if applying under the 'Workcation DTV' for remote work activities.

Just a remark regarding Visa Type: Berlin embassy state that you need to apply for Workcation DTV if you work remotely, even if you follow a soft power activity. Good luck!

Of course you can and your dad juat need 500k in his account

Under Muay Thai soft power, father can sponsor a son (with documents)

Sponsorship approval varies among embassies. Some only accept employer sponsorship. Probably easier for your father to "lend" you the 500k for the application and apply yourself as you have a remote job.
