Can my boyfriend's father act as his sponsor for the Thailand Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) with bank statements?

Hello, my boyfriend is planning to apply for the dtv. I’m wondering if his dad could be his sponsor and he shows his bank statements or he needs to have 500k in his bank account.

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV (Digital Nomad) visa requires the applicant to have the necessary funds in their own bank account. While a father can provide financial support, the funds must be in the applicant's name, and some visa applications require several months of bank statements. Though the father can potentially assist by transferring money temporarily, the applicant must ultimately meet the financial thresholds independently. Additionally, sponsorship typically is limited to direct family relationships, with options for siblings and dependents, and the rules may vary depending on the applicant's age.

I asked the consulate in Cambodia- he can show his dad’s bank account but has to show proof of relationship

It's your boyfriend younger than 18 years old? If yes, maybe. If not, not possible.

Also the money has to be at your boyfriend bank account name. Also some embassies require 3-6 month of bank statements so...

Better to try another visa/path.

I think for DTV a Thai visa agent cannot help with financial requirements, since DTV has to be applied for outside Thailand.

they know how can help u but condition is u should be in Thailand already ,,,

There are agents who can help if you apply in Vientiane, for a $$$ fee of course. They'll physically meet you there. That embassy has agents working either in the embassy or with the embassy.

@Paul ******
I understand agents can help, but topicstarter has problems with financial requirement of 500k and that is nothing any agent can arrange outside Thailand

Oh I see.. yes. Agents can help with ensuring your application is approved even if you have the funds on your account for just one day...but you do need to actually provide your own funds.

I'm not aware of an agent who can help with lending the funds, though it may be possible for a higher fee.

@Paul ******
,do you happen to know which agents can help?

I think no one understands the question, let me try :

Main dtv holder can sponsor his siblings and dependents

Therefore he his asking if his father will be main DTV

And him as “son” …

I don't think the father of the boyfriend is a remote worker that wants to get DTV.

Only in that case there are possibilities for minor children.

yes, we understand your point, but it's not possible. This is not how it works.

His dad could transfer him the money, generate the statement and then transfer it back.

Hi We got DTV visa a few days ago, and we also had this problem.

They require the money to be in the applicant's bank account, even though I am his wife, the money should have been in his account...

@Sivan *****
That seems pretty normal to me, a visa is strict personal, so applicant should comply with financial requirements himself.

DTV is for digital nomads or people spending their money in Thailand on soft power items.

They are expected to bring in money into Thai economy, and having a rich partner or other family member does not bring in that money.

Of course as always in Thailand there will be exceptions caused by different interpreteation of rules, so some embassies might act different.

Somone correct me if I'm wrong but sponsor needs to be thai like most visas.

@Paulie *******
DTV visa has nothing to do with sponsor.
